Honestly. They just don’t care. Because they get away with it. We need regulators with teeth. SourceMaterial report in 2023 & 2024 permitted levels for chemical releases exceeded hundreds of times. Documents show spills included cyanide, benzene & heavy oils - into the air & local waterways.

This highlights the problem of wood burners. Average PM2.5 in summer– 8.2µg/m³, in winter-11.2µg/m³. Would be bigger difference if people around here didn’t love their charcoal BBQs so much! Obviously, averages obscure the real problem – the dangerous shorter term spikes. @mumsforlungs.bsky.social

Good to see @emmahardymp.bsky.social confirming that work on an updated #AirQuality Strategy starts this year, and stating it should aim for continuous improvement, not just legal compliance. UK legal limits are still 4x WHO guidelines. The job of cleaning up our air is far from done. @uk100.org

Human folly…. and GREED “World Food Programme warned 50m people will be pushed into acute hunger. Extra heat from El Niño will cause deaths of 450,000 by Feb ‘27. Thats in addition to those killed by the wildfires, droughts, floods it will bring – & add further to deaths caused by global heating.”

We can't shout about this enough - the CHILL study led by @qmul.bsky.social found links between the reductions in #AirPollution from the ULEZ and improved lung growth in children. Jemima: "To hear that any damage my children may have had is outweighed by Ulez is such a massive relief."

Last week I met Ed Davey and Olly Glover the LibDem Transport Spokesperson to get the support for Ella’s law. I asked Ed to ask the Prime minster to implement Ella’s Law during PMQ’s. It is extremely important Ella’s law gets implanted to prevent preventable attacks and deaths.
