I keep thinking about it and given how impossible it is to avoid AI code unless you do everything from scratch without an OS or libraries, I'm starting to feel like it's not even really worth spending the mental effort worrying about whether or not AI code was used anymore...

The Godot situation is certainly entirely different to Unity/Unreal. My issue is that the policy can say they 'discourage' use but then when multiple maintainers have AI disclosures/disclaimers in their PRs that feels a bit 'do as I say, not as I do'. Plus it could be the start of a slippery slope.

Remi went on about how they are drowning in slop and to donate money to reduce it, all the while he was vibecoding. Why is it okay for the core team to do slop ? Why push the narrative online how they are the "good guys" fighting slop ? Multiple Godot core members are flirting with LLMs.

The reason Valve has defined AI code as separate from AI gen is that 100% of games released on Steam now contain AI code in them. 100% .. Through unity3d, UE or Godot or the steam SDK itself. Every artists must question how much of their tools rely on AI code underneath, and reconcile with it.

Unreal quadrupling down on AI? Well, if you're considering Godot, keep in mind that the last version that was not made with AI contributions was 4.5. You can perhaps extend some courtesy to 4.6, but 4.7 openly includes AI-generated code and LLM-assisted changes. Do with this info what you will.

A lot of attention is on #godot right now due to a certain other engine's dumb decisions. But I do think people switching due to AI should know that Godot accepts AI PRs and has AI generated code in it. It's up to you whether you're okay with that.
