1963 Lake Tahoe Airport Postcard . #LakeTahoe #Airport #Postcard #Lockheed #Constellation #Aviation #Travel #Avgeek #Ephemera
Vintage color postcard photograph of Lake Tahoe Airport in California, circa 1963, showing a large four-engine Lockheed Constellation passenger aircraft parked on the airport apron. The aircraft has a white upper fuselage, a red lower fuselage, and three distinctive vertical tail fins. Several smaller light aircraft are parked around the airfield, including a helicopter visible in the background to the right. A low, single-story airport terminal building with a long row of windows and a light-colored roof stands beside the apron. Numerous mid-century automobiles, station wagons, and vans are parked along the road in front of the terminal, illustrating the airport's roadside setting. A person wearing a red top stands near the terminal entrance. Tall light poles rise above the paved aircraft parking area. In the foreground, a paved access road curves past rocks, shrubs, and flowering plants, including bright red flowers. Beyond the airport, a dense belt of evergreen trees stretches across the landscape, with the forested Sierra Nevada mountains rising behind it under a clear blue sky. The scene captures the small regional airport's mid-century appearance, with its compact terminal, general aviation activity, and mountainous surroundings.

Personal computers were introduced around 1975 and were widespread in offices by 1985. The Internet was widely available by 1995. Yes, there was a cohort of people who grew up and became adults without Internet-connected computers in their lives. Those people are dead. Baby Boomers in their 70s […]

R.I.P. Peter Max . #PeterMax #rip #Artist #Artwork #PanAm #Aviation #Avgeek #B747
A colorful psychedelic poster by Peter Max promoting Pan Am’s Boeing 747. A large silver-and-blue Pan Am 747 dominates the composition, flying diagonally from the upper left toward the lower right. Behind the aircraft are brightly colored geometric bands in red, yellow, orange, blue, green, and pink, filled with clusters of white and dark-blue stars, circles, and small planets. The Pan Am globe logo and “747” appear prominently near the top. In the upper-right corner, a whimsical stylized figure in a colorful patterned outfit floats among stars. The lower-right corner features an abstract partial face and additional planetary imagery. A small ringed planet appears in the lower-left corner, while Peter Max’s signature logo is centered along the bottom edge. The overall design uses bold outlines, saturated colors, geometric shapes, and fantastical imagery characteristic of Max’s psychedelic commercial artwork.

Update: everything turned out fine, and I'm on my way home. I took the opportunity on my way out to finally stop to get some proper pictures of one of my favorite trees in the world, this lonely juniper in a pullout on Nevada 447 in the absolute middle of nowhere.
A large juniper tree stands in the middle of a gravel turnout. Behind it is a very small highway and brown hills with exposed rocky outcrops. There are no other trees in sight.

A spine of granite leading to the horizon with great glacial valleys on each side. Blue sky with some lingering monsoon clouds. had a spectacular day over 3000 meters, going up Mono Pass (not the Yosemite one) and down to some lakes in the basin on the other side for lunch and then back over to Mosquito Flat, a surprisingly-leisurely 20 km day. (1/2) #MountainMonday
Steep granite basin filled with forest and beautiful blue lakes under blue skies and puffy clouds (the pictured direction in this basin from Mosquito Flat is a lovely family+dog friendly walk, highly recommended). Faint dirt trail through granite sand leading up the side of the Ruby Lake basin (which despite the name is quite blue) A crumbly granite arete reflected in a calm lake A sparse high alpine ecosystem around 3600 meters. Some candy colored backpackers descend the rocky surface into the next basin.

A man riding an e scooter on 17th street. The scooter has large solar panels built onto the sides, giving it a very boxy and unusual look. It seems sort of retro futuristic in style too.
