"Journalist" not giving source and context, just trying to incite flames. It's not about game dev, it's about UGC platforms. And in that context, it makes sense. Good job everyone, you all get manipulated too easily. ppubs.uspto.gov/api/pdf/down...

We're going to see a lot of similar takes in coming days because of this interview. 1) The researches were more nuanced. It was depending on how long the crunch was, what was the actual result of the crunch, and more. 2) If someone makes it personal or try to make you react emotionally, discard it.

No the problem is the entitlment of users. You are not entitled to conscript someone’s labor and then harass him because they disapprove of the tools he used to make Linux support possible. What it shows is that even when you arent paying for a product you can become a fucking Karen.

FFS, this is so fucked… 😩 Would it kill the people here to not chase away any tech person who comes here and says something about AI?… I really want tech discussions and communities to hang out here and not on Elon's far-right playground 😐
Mike Masnick @masnick.com:
Multiple people I know have told me that they love the idea of Bluesky, and want it to succeed, but have abandoned it for X because the use agentic tools in their work and find them incredibly useful, and feel that any mention of their usage here leads to hate and ridicule.
I wouldn't bring this up if it was just one person, but it was multiple people since the beginning of August who mentioned in passing something to the effect of either "I'd spend more time on Bluesky if people weren't so anti-AI" *or* "As much as I hate to be there all the useful AI talk is on X."
I'm not saying it's anyone's responsibility to praise AI usage. I agree with much of the criticism of the tool. But for many, many people, it is a useful tech (I have talked about the ways I find it extraordinarily useful, only to have people here mock me, insisting my lived experience is a lie).
I am just noting that for all the people here who say that people should get off X and spend more time here, the reason I keep hearing from people in various circles who would *like* to do that, but don't, is the vociferous belief of many here that there are no possible positive uses of AI.
I'm not telling anyone what to do or what tech to use or what to like or not like. I'm just relaying that the reputation this place now has is one that a large segment of the population who are NOT fascists, saying they don't feel comfortable here because a main area of their interest is...
... considered worthy of being mocked and attacked. And even as I've explained that I've been able to have positive conversations about productive AI usage here with many of you, the reputation of the community here as insisting their own lived experience can't possibly be real has driven them away.
And the thing that tipped me over the edge to posting this here is that three of the people who told me things along these lines are all working on very real solutions to some of the problems of AI

The way to protect yourself of this kind of article is to not click on it and leave the places that run this kind of trash. It is designed to trigger emotions and make you click, while not caring about the vacuum of meaning it creates.

So if we ignore all the childish drama, there may be something more important here. Is it actually one of the first PC games from the West made that could not exist without AI? Without AI, the design of this game may require a budget that doesnt match the business case (price x units)?

Milking the drama, but at least it's justified, interesting and journalistic in a way. Well done! I can't care about the game, I am sorry for the team, but I am not mad at Saber's CEO. He is pretty funny in some lines. Bring back high school drama and let's throw shade back and forth!

The Saber CEO PR stunts is funny for me because between him, AI and Sacco, it looks like he is the one with the best writing skills. Anyway... Always remember in this kind of drama... Both angles can be true and we don't have to take a side. Chill.

It is also that it is not a leg up. You keep a feature, you keep costs with it. The % of people who would buy a certain console because it has discs is insanely small. They have the numbers that tell them most of us never put a disc in the machine.

3 different potential reasons to go full-time indie: a) you were part-time and had success and now want to build on that b) you have enough money to risk 1-2 years of work with no guarantee of success c) you have no other option/feel compelled in your soul. Again no guarantees.

Good, balanced takes here. To me, the data suggest Game Pass' negative impact on sales is overestimated and overblown by many, much as was the case for both piracy and used games before it. The important insight here is the MS does not appear to have clearly laid out the formula for compensation.

Anyways, a handful of exclusives sure as hell won't do it either. So, we'll see some more attempts at cloud devices, services & subs, ways to play off a console, etc etc. All the stuff that hasn't worked super well to this point but may be more attractive when the alternative is a $1k+ console.

Real Time Audio on general purpose operating systems is ridiculously hard to code.

Unfortunately (and unlike the visual system!) humans are *really* good at noticing audio hitches. In video, you might have ~16ms to process a video frame, and if you miss the deadline, eh...

Great reporting, as always. If the goal is to sell subscriptions, you do exactly what Xbox did with Game Pass. Problem is, outside of the enthusiast core, few cared. The mass market didn't want to play lots of different games. It wanted to play Fortnite, Minecraft and Roblox.

Microsoft at the time was all about services and subscriptions. The Xbox team did everything possible to make that work. It needed to scale to do so. Mass market kept playing Fortnite. The plan didn't work the way they wanted it to but that's not the fault of the Xbox team.

The article is interesting. I am just frustrated that we don't have the right discussion and we look for people to blame. It feels good to defecate on CEOs. The real problem is that there are too many games and game devs and the world just doesn't need that many. That's the most important reason.

I wouldnt advise anyone to get into the industry. If you want to make games, do it. You dont need to be in the industry for it. If that brings you in, good for you. Yes, it has always been hard. Way harder now than before. And it is less rewarding. Make games for the love of it. Not for a career.
