Went down the range to chill out. Four misfires with gnarly ammunition and I'm more stressed than when I arrived. Shooting (for me) is pure meditation until crap like this happens. There were many swears.

So hard not to laugh when you go now. I wonder how many volunteers have reported people giggling at them. Brilliant marketing.

My new book has a cover! The folks @columbiaup.bsky.social did a fantastic job. It captures one of the book's key arguments on the relationship between an 'everyday technology' of American mobility, the US frontier, and empire. Look for it on store shelves just in time for Bike Month 2027.
A historical painting from Remington bicycles showing a cycling scout on the American frontier, rifle attached to bicycle.

"This article was created with the support of AI tools based on XXXX content. XXXX accepts no responsibility for errors or decisions based on this information." What is the point? There is (already) so little industy content by a human with actual thoughts and critical engagement.

Just had a very nice young man offer to and carry my bag up the stairs to the plane. It was very kind and sweet but by god, I feel decrepit.

Parents evening. Biannual event. This is my favourite school event. I get to pretend to I am an actual responsible grown up whilst acting utterly shocked that The Boy has learnt objectionable behaviours or scottish words. Been practicing the whole "it must have come from his father" face.

So, I was taught the rule of thumb is - 1 percentage point rise in gilt yields equates to £12 billion per year to gvnt borrowing costs. Not sure if that is still the case, but still, in that ball park. Surely Labour needs to be REALLY CLEAR on what this means and why it is happening.

One hour appointment at fracture clinic with son. Went 10am. Just home now. The hospital was full to squeaking. It isn't sustainable. It is way past being something we should be ashamed of. The hospital was old, dirty, crowded, incomprehensible lay out, boiling hot (25 outside, god knows inside).
