Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Has anyone ever made pamphlets or zines in classes? If so, what materials have you used? I'm thinking about using regular computer paper alongside cover paper, needles, and waxed thread. Also looking at some marbled paper for fun. Anything I'm missing?

A student stopped by office hours the other day to introduce herself. She had taken my Honors seminar on Zoom in Spring 2021, so this was first time we'd met in person! She told me how much she had enjoyed the class, which was a consoling thought considering what a difficult time that was!

Final grades submitted. Fall 2024 survived. With all my personal upheavals this last year, I felt sure at the start of the fall that I didn't want to be a historian any longer. But the semester turned out surprisingly well, and I realized I'm pretty good at what I do.

My Atlantic history class ended up being phenomenal. I had wanted to develop this class for so long. My only issue is I ended the class in the 1790s (go figure!) and I would have liked to draw out some of the threads of the course into the 19th century. Hopefully there will be a next time!

So many problems here, but fundamentally I'm not sure why an AI-generated textbook would be so attractive from a pedagogical standpoint. Would students actually prefer reading it over listening to a professor's lectures? Would they find it engaging?

Only 7 of Emily Dickinson's poems were published in her lifetime. Her first book of poetry, Poems by Emily Dickinson, appeared in 1890. The Springfield (MA) Republican reviewed the volume concluding "Those who are fit will read and know themselves divined."
Newspaper article from the Springfield Republican dated November 16, 1890, titled 'The Literary Wayside.' The article discusses Emily Dickinson's poetry, including commentary on her style, themes, and reclusive life. It features quotes from her works, as well as excerpts from other poets for comparison. The text is arranged in long columns, characteristic of 19th-century newspapers, with references to Emerson and other literary figures. The article is densely packed with critical analysis and reflections on Dickinson's unique contributions to literature
