It is a bit funny that, for whatever reason, the auction page blurs out character faces when including reference photos for the costume
An auction page for Rand al'Thor's costume from WHEEL OF TIME 1x01, "Leavetaking." The image on the left for Lot # 12 is of Josha Stradowski as Rand al'Thor (left) and Michael McElhatton as Tam al'Thor (right) in a scene from the show, but their faces are blurred. The current bid is £100 and is asking for £125. There is almost 16 days left in the auction.

I'm *pretty* sure that Rand's sweater is hand-knitted and made from natural fibers, and that kind of yarn can be pricy, so £100 for his sweater (and several other items of clothing) is a steal. I can't afford to partake—and it'd never fit me tbh—but those two sweaters should go to a deserving home!

Not only does Rand have a Good Sweater*, but it also has the distinction of being the runner-up in the first-ever Knit Madness tournament! And it got pretty close to winning! knitflicks.beehiiv.com/p/knit-madne... *Thanks to WoT's lighting, I was convinced that his sweater was blue for ages, tbh.

It looks like they're auctioning off two versions of The Sweater? (Lots 2 and 12.) Bummed that this signals an end to it all, but I hope a deserving WoT fan or two can get their hands on them!

And they shouldn’t have to publicly shame an institution that’s infamous for ripping off smaller publications without giving them credit and seems to be allergic to linking to other publications to get a crumb of acknowledgment

Maybe traffic from a link that simply acknowledges that someone else covered this space first is a blip for a national pub. But it would’ve been huge for a place like @fansplaining.bsky.social, which does vital work with a fraction of the resources. (Disclaimer: I wrote for them in June.)

I lucked out that my piece went massively viral back when Twitter curated my posts about it into a Fleet (remember those lol) and it was at the top of the Entertainment tab for like 12 hours; chances are that some of that went back to the places I linked to.

That’s not what happened in my case. Theirs was a newsy trend piece, mine was more of a historical deep dive with a lot of technical jargon. But it cost me, a person working at a smaller pub with much less clout at the time (and minimal now), absolutely nothing to throw in a link archive.ph/FqANs

I had colleagues whose work got ripped off by larger pubs like NYT—and who covered areas that weren’t as historically looked down upon as fandom—all the time. If you were lucky, they got shamed into citing you after the fact and acted like *you* were the unreasonable one for ensuring credit

Michelle Jaworski @michejaw.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
In 2020/2021, I was working on a feature about fans who reverse-engineered knitted garments. Then Bernie wore mittens at the Inauguration and the NYT beat me to the punch. That piece had nothing to do with mine and the two shared exactly one source. I linked to it anyway because I’m not a dick.

this is where your money goes when you buy harry potter stuff. rowling isn’t shy about it. amnesty wrote an even-handed report that laid out what anti-rights groups do; rowling uses her billions & clout to suppress it. when you give rowling money; she spends it on stealing people’s human rights.
jk rowling quotes an account called trans widows’ voices

rowling says:
Should any of the women's organisations targeted by @AmnestyUK's recent 'anti-rights' blacklist wish to take legal action, applications can be made to the JK Rowling Women's Fund.

trans widows’ voices says:

Whilst I understand the detriment to Beira's Place is real, and focussing on @jk_rowling get clicks it's a shame that mainstream press coverage of the Amnesty debacle is not also focussing on us smaller groups listed who do not have the same power or influence to defend ourselves

defector.com/looking-for-...
Looking for work has always been tough, but in 2026 it feels abysmal. It is a daily humiliation ritual. Toggling back and forth between job boards, cover letters, and four different versions of your own résumé, tailored specifically to listings that may not even be real, tests your own fortitude and tolerance for pain. The slog of seeking employment—looking at your email, closing your email, refreshing it, repeat—is its own kind of labor that is only rewarded when you achieve what feels impossible, which is getting a fucking job.
