I write speculative fiction about intelligence, science, humanity and what happens when our ability to discover something exceeds our wisdom to deal with what we find. www.michaelrowanbooks.com

Thanks. You are right. I chose this quote as my new Novel has a similar physics challenge as the back drop to the story. Details on my website. Link in bio.

We have become remarkably comfortable talking to machines. We ask for directions and recipes. We ask them to explain things we don't understand and help us to write things we don't quite know how to say. bit.ly/4rRpPUm

Using bright squeezed vacuum to knock electrons out of xenon atoms, researchers found the light’s photon-number fluctuations were imprinted onto the electrons — offering a tool to probe and control electron motion. See what the researchers found: go.aps.org/4zilnkb
A 3D illustration of an optical setup on a white surface. A red laser beam passes through a lens and two transparent plates, turns orange after a copper-colored block, and continues past a black cube and a glass prism. A curved mirror reflects the orange beam onto a thin, light-blue jet surrounded by small blue spheres representing xenon atoms. A wavy blue line, representing an emitted electron, curves from the jet down to a round black detector.

What if two apparently contradictory ideas can both contain part of the truth? Perhaps understanding begins when we stop insisting that only one of them can be right. #NielsBohr #Physics #Philosophy michaelrowanbooks.com

Jodrell Bank in Cheshire, the world’s largest steerable dish radio telescope at the time (now the third largest). was switched on in 1957 on this day. Built by Bernard Lovell, it was the only radar device that could track the carrier rocket of the Soviet Union’s Sputnik I.

Would a contemporary AI, judge a human as being human or would it judge an interaction as another AI? Assuming there were no clues in the interface (time, speed, modality).

It is complicated further by humans ability to create anthropomorphic relationships. I do not consider Turins position a dodge; it is rather a benchmark proposed decades before AI became widespread. It is useful in that it illuminates the dichotomy of being a witness and also a judge.

Rather than trying to define or prove internal human-like consciousness ("understanding"), Turing argued for a behavioral benchmark: if the machine acts indistinguishably from a human, deep philosophical arguments about whether it "truly" understands become practically irrelevant to the test.

Turing wrote that a computer would deserve to be considered intelligent if it could successfully deceive a human evaluator into believing it was human during a blind text-based conversation. >>
