I don't usually comment on whether notables should have been awarded funding in some competition, not having seen the application or the competition. But this sort of thing on previously awarded grants that have been recommended funding in multiple rounds of expert review should not be happening:
In 2025, Eddy received a letter from the National Institutes of Health, informing him that his work "had been determined to be of absolutely no value to the US taxpayer, and therefore it was being specifically terminated," he recalls.

ASHG (@geneticssociety.bsky.social) is proposing bylaw changes that include removing its commitment to diversity in committee appointments. A sad day.
Section 2: APPOINTMENT, SERVICE. Committee members, except those serving by virtue of holding other office, shall be appointed by the President in consultation with the Executive Committee, and may be removed by a majority vote of the Board of Directors. The President’s appointments shall, to the extent possible, reflect the diversity of the Society’s membership. The President shall designate the chairperson of each committee, also in consultation with the Executive Committee. F The Board may add or remove standing committees and may effect changes in the composition of standing committees – including the number of members and rotation schedules – by majority vote and without amendment of these Bylaws. Committees and other working groups may meet in person or by remote communication. The standing committees are:

Combined with Conservative MPPs giving themselves months and months off, more and more the Ontario Legislative Assembly just seems to be a rubber stamp for Doug Ford cosplaying as a legitimate legislature.
When Clark was asked Thursday if he planned to allow the current budget bill to have public hearings — after it had been sitting for two weeks at the committee stage with no movement — he was cagey.

"I've made no decisions," he said, a couple of hours before tabling his 1,238-word motion.

The motion also seeks to schedule one day each of public hearings on a bill that overhauls school board governance and another that prevents municipalities from requiring that developments follow certain environmentally friendly standards.

DAE abbreviate the "accessibility" in "chromatin accessibility" as "a11y"? I suspect Google AI Overview is making stuff open when it says "often" in bioinformatics contexts.
Chromatin accessibility (often abbreviated or related to the concept of a11y in bioinformatics contexts, particularly when referring to open, accessible regions) refers to the degree to which nuclear DNA is accessible toDNA-binding proteins, such as transcription factors, histones, and RNA polymerase. It is a critical aspect of gene regulation, as inaccessible (compacted) chromatin restricts protein access, while open (accessible) chromatin allows for transcriptional activation

1/The Rocketchip paper authors repeated peak calling 3 times for each combination of 2 datasets × 2 control types × 2 peak types × 3 aligners × 4 deduplicators × 4 peak callers. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
Figure 2. Peak Counts for all Software Combinations. ChIP-seq data from Namani et al.
2019 and Rube et al. 2016 were run through all software combinations in Rocketchip three
times each. Raw peak counts were log2 transformed and plotted in the heatmap. Darker red
corresponds to higher peak counts while darker blue corresponds to lower peak counts. Gray
corresponds to “NA” values, as PePr and CisGenome cannot be run without a control. The
heatmap was created using R (v4.2.3) with a kernel (r-irkernel v1.3.2) in Jupyter Notebook
(v1.0.0) using the following packages: ComplexHeatmap (v2.14.0), dplyr (v1.1.4), tidyr (v1.3.1),
reshape2 (v1.4.4), stringr (v1.5.1), and MASS (v7.3.60.0.1).

One of the things that Canada does well nserc-crsng.canada.ca/en/funding/r...
Paid maternity/parental leave for students and postdoctoral fellows

The Agencies will provide maternity/parental leave supplements within 12 months following a child’s birth or adoption to eligible students and postdoctoral fellows who are paid out of agency grants and who are the child’s primary caregivers. The supplement paid to the grant recipient will be based on the students’ and/or postdoctoral fellows’ current salary/stipend from the grant for up to 12 months to cover the leave period.

The agency-paid portion of parental leave is only eligible during the grant’s authority to use funds period as it is based on the agency-funded annual salary or stipend, not on other funding sources.

If both parents are supported by grant funds, each parent may take a portion of the leave for a combined maximum of 12 months. The supplement will be pro-rated if the student or postdoctoral fellow is being trained in research on a part-time basis.

The administering institution is responsible for submitting a request for paid maternity/parental leave supplements to students and postdoctoral fellows by completing the Grant Amendment Form for the relevant agency’s approval.
