Depraved, craven idiocy from the @nytimes.com : "Ms. Hearst was a scion of California’s equivalent of a royal family." There's no equivalent of a "royal F'ing family" in California or any other godforsaken American state: take your goddamned rag and wrap some rotting fish with it!

Some Democrats don’t expect to fill a Supreme Court vacancy under Trump
Democrats need a net gain of four seats to capture the Senate. If they get it, they’d control what happens in a vacancy, as Justice Samuel Alito admits he has thought about retirement.

Absent major institutional reforms that turn us into a multiparty democracy, totally transform SCOTUS, & significantly rein in the imperial presidency, this is the <best case> scenario of what is going to happen. Other, more permanent authoritarian scenarios are also possible.

And let´s all remember it was Ed Rendell, Democratic governor of Pennsylvania and his wife, who sent their lackeys out to campaign against Democrats and for Alito´s confirmation...... the one time when Democrats were putting up a fight.

Supreme Court expansion is ‘a concerted effort to intimidate the court,' Justice Alito says
Despite Americans' eroding trust in the Supreme Court, Alito says he's not discussed growing calls for expanding the court and setting term limits.

Tucker Carlson’s frustrated bafflement when confronted with basic things like “the UK’s GDP is larger than Russia’s” and “in 1994, Ukraine, Russia, US, and UK signed a treaty called the Budapest Memorandum” shows the state of Putin apologetics. Without lies and conspiracy theories, it falls apart.

“Written for Television by ZOE KAZAN & ALEXANDER CHEE” in white letters against the black tv screen.A tv still of Mike Faist, Christopher Abbott and Florence Pugh. White text in a San serif font reads “This East of Eden, adapted primarily by Zoe Kazan-Alexander Chee co-wrote a key midseason episode-with Garth Davis directing, is rich, morally complex and packed with memorable performances."

Again, <only Republicans> ever get to talk like this. If a single municipal level Democrat ever did, it would be a national outrage &spark a wave of “civility” discourse, & op-eds about how Dems must Respect Real Folkz & talk across difference. Democracy is incompatible with this double standard.

I don't find the Schmitt Senate fiasco remotely funny. It's just McCarthyism but more incompetent. It's appalling, & a constitutional order that can't end this level of unserious lying & extremist nonsense isn't worth saving. We need massive institutional reform to make sure it never happens again.

SCOTUS delenda est. It is democracy, or SCOTUS. They have made it very clear that there is no other choice. Expand it, reverse its worst opinions, and then ruthlessly strip it of jurisdiction. Don't trust an expanded SCOTUS in the long run.
