Hey, it is important to direct your anger to the right people. Winnipeg Free Press didn’t write this. You can see that the byline attributes it to a wire service, the Canadian Press. You should direct your ire that way.

Me, making small talk with another dad on the playground bench: “Any fun plans for the weekend?” Other Dad: “Gettin’ married tomorrow.” Me, immediately putting down my Car-Free Sunday topic: “Oh, heck yeah, let’s get all deets!”

Here is yet one more example. Miller's silhouette is similar to the first Palmolive bottle, whereas he would benefit from having more padding and extension, which would create the second Palmolive bottle.
Two Palmolive dish soap bottles. One is very rounded at the bottom and narrow at the top. The second has a bit more width at the top.

Note: The US has no safety regs that limit vehicle blind zones. Federal car rules only protect those inside a vehicle. Others are ignored.

Bring the traffic lights onto the nearside of the intersection, so drivers/cyclists can only see them if behind the crosswalk. They do this outside of North America and it’s maddening how many NA driving problems that would fix.

Cool down before you install: give new gems a few days to be vetted
Most supply-chain attacks against RubyGems exploit a narrow window: an account is compromised, a malicious version ships, and any bundle install in the minutes that follow resolves straight to it. ...

An analogy: Reducing deaths per mile driven is like reducing cancer deaths among smokers. Laudable, but an incomplete strategy. Public health leaders strive to *reducing smoking,* not just treating smokers with cancer. We should apply the same logic to road safety.

Bicycles are hugely space efficient, which is why they make a lot of sense in congested cities. This video demonstrates why there aren’t traffic jams in bike lanes. Just imagine the traffic queues if every bicycle here was a car.

When Wab asks if MB should switch to summer time or standard time, don't be a coward. Look at how Winnipeg straddles time zones. We're a half-hour off of Mountain Time. We're a half-hour off of Central Time. Demand the half-hour compromise. Let's follow Newfoundland's lead. #UTC-6:30
A map of Canada and the United States depicting strictly mathematical time zones based on 15-degree longitude increments, completely ignoring provincial/state/political boundaries. Straight, grey vertical lines slice north to south to mark these boundaries, diving the map into vertical colour-coded strips.

The province of Manitoba has two colours: its western half is orange, matching its western neighbour Saskatchewan in Mountain Standard Time, UTC–7), and its eastern half is yellow, matching most of its eastern neighbour Ontario in Central Standard Time, UTC–6. The city of Winnipeg sits right near the vertical gray dividing line that splits the province down the middle, visually demonstrating that it straddles the boundary between the two mathematical time zones.

The City of Cincinnati just rolled out 0% interest loans for e-bikes. $100/month, no down payment. Cincinnati hills are no joke, so affordable e-bikes could be a game changer for getting more people to bike.

I have loved these. They’re the large front basket and large roll-top bag from Rad, which fits an absolute ton. And then the Rad side hard-shell, watertight, lockable panniers have been game changers for chaining trips/errands together. I normally hate shilling for them, but these are solid

I forgot how much respect drivers give you when you are carrying a baseball bat home. Every driver gave me a full full lane change when overtaking. I wish I had a helmet cam to show you
Photo taken while on the cargo bike, stopped at a red light. In my left hand is the pink baseball bat. The asphalt road has faded bicycle lane paint. The trees along the side of the road are still bare, the sky above is blue and clear.

It’s the RadWagon 4. Every errand, people ask “How much does that sweet ride cost?” and the only correct answer from me is “Way cheaper than a second car.” If I were doing it again, knowing it isn’t just an ADHD-fad hobby, I would have bought more bike.

Finally warm enough in Winnipeg to take the pogies off the cargo bike. Great way to keep the wine bottles from clinking in the panniers.
Top down photo into a rectangular hard-shell bicycle pannier. Inside the pannier, there are four wine bottles. Two of the four are tucked inside neoprene handlebar mitts, or “pogies”.
