It’s time for the legislature to take action to support our communities and this bill is one step forward. Metro Surge set many small businesses in SD51 back and the dramatic loss of income hurts in ongoing ways. Support with basic housing assistance will help them recover. youtu.be/_0lAKTZcX0Y

For many reasons, we need to make sure Hennepin County Medical Center continues to serve our community. Trauma care that is needed by MN residents, training for health care providers and special services like the poison control center are vital. Federal actions are causing huge declines in funding.

Today, our 2026 session begins and I’m grateful for being together with my colleagues, especially Sen Hoffman. Gratitude for being able to work on the issues important to Minnesotans is mixed with grief at not having Speaker Emerita Hortman with us. I’m glad we will honor her and her family today ❤️

A statement released by the parents of Alex Pretti. "Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you."
STATEMENT FROM THE PARENTS OF ALEX PRETTI, MICHAEL AND SUSAN PRETTI
"We are heartbroken but also very angry.
"Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately he will not be with us to see his impact.
"I do not throw around the hero term lightly.
However his last thought and act was to protect a woman. The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting.
Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump's murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He has his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down all while being pepper sprayed.

"Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you."

The Native American Caucus condemns the illegal ICE detention of Oglala Sioux relatives and a Red Lake Nation descendant, and interrogation and harassment of countless community members. Deportation of people who have existed on these lands is not only impossible, it is absurd.
Native American Caucus Condemns ICE’s Detainment and Racial Targeting of
Native Americans
Native peoples are Indigenous to this country, existing on this continent for thousands of years before the colonization of this nation – rendering deportation impossible and absurd. Native Americans are citizens by law, history, and treaty.

We demand an immediate halt to ICE’s operations for good, an end to the discriminatory practices, and a comprehensive, transparent investigation of ICE and its accomplices across the system.

Nobody is illegal on stolen land. We echo calls from the community to Tribal and urban Native leaders to rise up and declare: ICE is not welcome and has no authority on any Tribal or urban Native lands, businesses, or other entities.

We are strongest when we act in solidarity, loudly and clearly, rooted in our identity as the first peoples of this land— the original caretakers who understand what it means to be good relatives. Together, we can and will protect the safety and well-being of our people and homelands.

Statement from the [Jimmy] Carter Center
Carter Center Statement on Minneapolis ICE Shooting
The Carter Center condemns the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis by an ICE agent and calls for calm in the wake of this tragic incident. As the details continue to come into focus, we echo the community's concerns over the nature of the shooting. We stand with those in Minneapolis who are peaceably demonstrating to demand answers and accountability.
We also condemn the weaponization of our nation's military and law enforcement to sow fear, incite violence, and chill free speech. Likewise, we condemn any response that seeks to excuse, normalize, or rationalize such acts of violence.
Our thoughts are with Ms. Good's family, friends, and the entire Minneapolis community as they grieve.
We call upon all Americans to join us in rejecting political violence in all its forms. In the words of President Carter, we must say "no more" to
"government actions that undermine our unified democracy."
