This week’s massive market repricing of near-term Federal Reserve policy action: The market-based probability of an October Fed rate hike at the next FOMC meeting in three weeks has plummeted from 70% to 23% over just the last 3 days The probability of a December 9th hike has fallen from 95% to 86%.

Annual revisions lifted the savings rate level, but the sharp downward trajectory remains. Despite all the noise about AI, the biggest driver of strong US growth over the last 2.5yrs has come from household's spending growing much faster than their incomes.

As illustrated in this CNBC chart, it has been quite a month for the fixed-income market. The 10-year yield has moved up by around 50 bps to its highest level since 2007 (with a slightly larger move for the 2-year, while the 30-year has reached levels not seen since 2002). 1 of 3

It’s US Jobs Friday. Consensus forecasts point to nonfarm payroll growth of 85k for Sep., down from 162k in Aug. Other key indicators are expected to hold steady: the unemployment rate at 4.1%, labor force participation at 61.6%, and monthly average hourly earnings growth of 0.3% (3.1% annual).

On inflation data, while most of us will wait for Japan's national data, I suspect the Bank of Japan will pay attention to the Tokyo measures released overnight. Tokyo core CPI jumped to 2.7% (versus a 2.4% consensus forecast and 1.8% prior), its highest level in 10 months #economy #japan #inflation
