This upcoming Saturday is a major failure for the AIFS & GraphCast - both consistently showed a major nor'easter (with little support from the GFS & ECMWF), only to completely lose the storm: 4656

Brennan Allen @meteorologistallen.bsky.social · 20/02/2025This threat tracking southern east of us - missing us by 200 km. One of many near misses this winter for NS, for those complaining about this winter it is nothing compared to what it could of been if the dice rolls were slightly different. #NSstorm 170
Brennan Allen @meteorologistallen.bsky.social · 17/02/2025Cleared away 20+ mm WE of ice pellets from my driveway. Changed over to all freezing rain half way through the shoveling. Nothing worse than clearing ice pellets, like moving sand. Goal was to remove it so it won't act like a sponge and soak up the rain... Hard freeze at 7am #nsstorm #halifax 260
Brennan Allen @meteorologistallen.bsky.social · 14/02/2025It is rare to see 50% probabilities of 15 cm of snow or more at this lead time (a week out). Will have to monitor the forecast closely for a possible major storm at the end of next week. #NSstorm #Halifax 280
Reposted by Brennan AllenRick Thoman @alaskawx.bsky.social · 12/02/2025So the 33 days so far this winter with Arctic Sea ice extent at the lowest since 1978-79 got me wondering about when lowest daily occurred throughout the year. Answer: mostly 2016-2020 except 2012 mid-August to early October and 2010 for a short stretch in late June and early July. #Arctic #SeaIce 0163

Brennan Allen @meteorologistallen.bsky.social · 31/01/2025Still one day to go but, with an average January high of -1.6 C and a mean daily temperature of -5.2 C. January 2025 will go down as the coldest in 10 years. Jan 2015 avg high -1.7 C, avg mean -6.8 C. Data from YHZ.Normal Jan avg high is -1.2 C, and avg mean is -5.7 C. #nsstorm #halifax 162

Brennan Allen @meteorologistallen.bsky.social · 29/01/2025Roads in Halifax are likely to become very icy again this evening. Temperatures in the city will go above zero by 4-5pm then rapidly fall below zero around 9pm... I know last night was rough. #nsstorm #halifax #HFXtraffic 071
Brennan Allen @meteorologistallen.bsky.social · 28/01/20251/4 to 1/8 SM +SN -BLSN. Nice frontal squall just in time for the commute home. #nsstorm 000
Brennan Allen @meteorologistallen.bsky.social · 21/01/2025🌡️ Temperature outlooks for next 2 weeks for #Halifax: Current cold period, abates later this week. One other Arctic blast likely at the end of the month before a milder start to Feb. #NSstorm 090
Brennan Allen @meteorologistallen.bsky.social · 21/01/2025It's been a very dry January. To date Halifax area has seen about 30-40mm of precipitation this month (most of which was rain this past Wkend). Not much more likely for January which averages around 100mm. So Jan likely ~50% of normal precipitation. I suspect the drought will be worse #Nsstorm 131
Brennan Allen @meteorologistallen.bsky.social · 16/01/2025I can't be the only one. Brutal GI bug has got me good last few days, thinking norovirus? Wash your hands #halifax 110
Brennan Allen @meteorologistallen.bsky.social · 12/01/2025Overnight lows in Halifax generally above or near normal (~ -10C) until next weekend - rain. Then a pattern shift with Arctic air likely for the 3rd week of January. -20C might be on the table and local likes could be safe for skating by the 25th or so... For the first time in 3 years! #nsstorm 150

Brennan Allen @meteorologistallen.bsky.social · 21/12/2024About 4-5 cm so far in Cornwall PE. Got suckered by downward motion between the coastal NS 850mb fronto and the mid level 700 mb fronto band that formed over eastern -southern NB. #PEstorm Father at 18cm of heavy snow in Cole harbour. A few more cm on the backend = most over 20cm in HRM. #nsstorm 151
Brennan Allen @meteorologistallen.bsky.social · 20/12/2024From a conceptual model point of view. The highest snowfall totals with this upcoming storm will be in southeastern NB, PEI and western-northern NS. The low tracks too close to the Atlantic coast of NS. I've noticed a bias for QPF distribution overly close to low tracks from some guidance. #nsstorm 130
Brennan Allen @meteorologistallen.bsky.social · 19/12/2024@cyclone-fogarty.bsky.social Made a great point to me too that rapidly falling temperatures will cause this wet snow to ice up Sunday... You'll want to clear the snow as soon as you can #NSstorm One other thought: We are lucky the winds are not overly strong with this storm. 120
Brennan Allen @meteorologistallen.bsky.social · 17/12/2024Weekend storm would pretty much lock up a white Christmas for most of the Maritimes. Unfortunately it happens during the busiest travel weekend of the year... Plan ahead folks. #nsstorm 030
Brennan Allen @meteorologistallen.bsky.social · 29/11/2024Late next week (Thursday -Friday) we watch for the next chance for significant snow in the Maritimes. Calperut being a redeveloping Clipper. You are on borrowed time if the winter tires aren't on yet! #Nsstorm 021
Brennan Allen @meteorologistallen.bsky.social · 27/11/2024Well good news is this looks less likely now - more of a cobequid pass through NB and up west PEI issue now. Still first good heavy wet snowfall for those areas. Take care traveling there last Thursday and Friday morning! 020
Reposted by Brennan AllenRyan Snoddon @ryansnoddon.bsky.social · 26/11/2024Despite the weekend rainfall, water levels remain low and Halifax water customers on the Lake Major supply are being asked to continue conserving water. #nswx 0163
Brennan Allen @meteorologistallen.bsky.social · 26/11/2024I've seen this before... Friday morning commute could be messy for folks driving into Halifax/Dartmouth from inland communities. First ❄️ of the season always rough... Possible situation where airport snows and downtown rains #nsstorm 041
Brennan Allen @meteorologistallen.bsky.social · 22/11/2024Random weather nerd fact of the day. The rdps model no longer really exists. It is just a scaled early version of the gdps integration. 020
Brennan Allen @meteorologistallen.bsky.social · 22/11/2024Rare to see this much blue on the CPC outlook... We have gotten so used to above normal temps 010
Brennan Allen @meteorologistallen.bsky.social · 21/11/2024For the first time in many years the first half of December is looking colder than normal for eastern Canada. I'd get your tires done soon if you haven't yet, before the "rush"... #nsstorm 062
Brennan Allen @meteorologistallen.bsky.social · 19/11/2024Fantasy range GEPS forecasts over an 85% chance of a white Christmas for YHZ... Well above the historical average closer to a coin flip. Looking forward to seeing how this verifies. #NSstorm 040
Brennan Allen @meteorologistallen.bsky.social · 19/11/2024These newscasts focusing on the bomb cyclone southwest of Vancouver Island are missing the point. Yeah there will be some wind impacts, but worst of it well offshore. Focus should be that it is directing a very potent atmosphere river into northern California. #CAwx #BCstorm 151
