A windy Tuesday in store for the Maritimes - particularly gusty in the Gulf of St. Lawrence region. Likely to see some moderate impacts since trees still have much of their foliage. Perhaps good time to bring in lightweight items on your property. #nswx #pewx #nbwx

Satellite snapshot showing the large low off NJ with what looks like an eye but it's really just a cleared area of shallow cloud near the center. A true eye (as in a hurricane) has heavy rain immediately encircling it. In this case the rain is WELL removed from the center.

It's technically not a tropical storm (and has no formal name) but it will be a mess especially along the heavily-populated coastline from MA to NJ to DE. Here is a detailed meteorological analysis for those interested in the fine points.

Although the greatest total rainfall in Cape Breton was in Victoria County (280-320 mm ~12"), it did not fall at the extreme rate there as it did in Richmond Co where the heaviest damage occurred. 23 mm/hr over ~8hrs at Sampsonville late Fri/early Sat. #nsstorm

During El Nino years, the Pacific tropical zones are hyperactive. Currently 'Bavi' threatens the southern Japanese Islands. The large typhoon also has concentric eyewalls and the storm is deviating right of the forecast track. #ZoomEarth view with radar:

A mixture of 'gravity waves' (cloud pattern) at various altitudes. These are akin to ripples in the sand at the beach. Different levels in the atmosphere where the temperature increases with height often give rise to these. #nswx #pewx
