I have accepted I will never make a lot of money in my life. I don't need much to be happy, anyway. But every time I return to south Louisiana — especially now that I have worked through the painful things that kept me at a distance — I am reminded how rich I am to come from a place like this.

Been in Louisiana this week to see family for the first time in many moons, do archival research for a personal project, and attend some cultural events. I simply could not resist buying this shirt today.

This is awful. Just one example among many of how corporate mass media and unethical journalists fail the vulnerable and marginalized.

Once I found out about it, I contacted the reporter and asked him to retract the piece--or at minimum add an editor's note acknowledging the NYT reporting about how Jane Doe did NOT tell police that she consented to her rape. Thus far, the publication has refused to do so.

Ironically, my original interview with the journalist I spoke with was primarily about how "inconsistencies" can come from gender bias in investigatory processes and then be blamed on survivors. It was the inspiration for this thread--but none of these points made it into any USA Today article:

And that led to my words appearing in a victim-blaming article written by a journalist I have never met about how Jane Doe's story was "inconsistent."

Earlier this week, I agreed to interviews with two USA Today journalists. They wrote fantastic articles about the Cornell case that I'm proud to have been a part of. What I did not know is that their employer considers interviews to proprietary and opens up recordings to be used by any journalist.

My blog began as a way for me to connect with the Louisiana Cajun-Creole culture I had partly abandoned due to my own family trauma. For a long time, it felt too close for comfort for me to explore beyond the food and the music. Now I see how profoundly all of it has shaped my morals and worldview.

I also feel grateful to come from a culture of people in the U.S. who have not fully forgotten our origin story as othered refugees who stood up for religious, cultural, and personal freedoms despite ethnic cleansing and repeated attempts at forced assimilation into British and American customs.

In many ways, my life collapsed this year. But it also made me consider for myself what I actually value in life and how lucky I am to have the supports I do, which have enabled me to recover and rediscover my passions.

I have been so thankful to get to know these two women, and I hope my friends and followers will share their stories and consider giving to their fundraisers — even $10 a month from enough people would make a world of difference for each of them.

trillion
• Anthropic lost $42 billion in 2025
• Al lab spent $7.33 billion on compute and infrastructure last year
• Operating loss widened to $8.06 billion in 2025 from $2.98 billion in 2024
• Execs, industry analysts have expressed concerns over harms of Al tech
Sept 28 (Reuters) - Anthropic is making a massive bet that Al will transform the global economy more profoundly than industrialization, electricity and the internet, according to its IPO prospectus seen by Reuters.
But the cost to get there will be staggering. Anthropic reported a net loss of $42 billion in 2025, and plans to spend $518 billion on cloud, computing and infrastructure obligations in coming year, according to the
prospectus.
