They quit in the middle to have sex, so we don't see how the baking did or didn't turn out. 😂 (This never happens in any romance I write. When people make food, they eat it, dammit!)

You can't put the author name and title in the same search bar so if the title is really common it's hard to get. Also it seems to be "smart" search now that offers you new popular things instead of the word you typed.

Haha, yeah, shapeshifters in the SF Bay? Sure? Never any traffic and lots of parking, no way.

Exactly. And pick a thing, don't keep adding new things for me to try to ignore.

Fictional cooking is so fast sometimes! Are they eating it raw, just warmed in the pan?

The romance I read where the uptight character is going to teach the "no rules! just be creative and have fun!" love interest to bake and picks... croissants. From scratch.

OCTOBER RECS DAY 5 In case yesterday's recs were too intense, here is some horror that is also funny and has likable characters. Also @stevewestenra.bsky.social has a sale via itchio. (I thought @lormaggot.ca had something on sale but I forget where) steve-westenra.itch.io/the-erstwhil...
The Flesh of the Sea is gooey ocean horror by Lor Gislason and Shelley Lavigne. The cover is pink and purple and shows a boat splashing The Erstwhile Tyler Kyle by Steve Hugh Westenra

LOL. Well, it's basically a bunch of sliced potatoes so even if you mess it up, in the end you've got cooked potatoes that just don't look as nice.

Perhaps the best evidence for AI-driven arts job loss is that all digital arts industries are losing jobs while most live arts still chug along Sectors like graphic design, streaming, & movie recording have experienced historically unusual job loss since ChatGPT's launch
a graph showing job losses of between 20-5% in all digital arts and gains of 15% in most live arts

I can't remove it from my phone, and it sometimes interrupts my real-life conversations with wildly-off-base offers to "help" with what it thinks we're doing. Also it doesn't seem to get the idea of talking without a goal? Like, we're just talking about art, not "planning a vacation."

OCTOBER BOOKS DAY 4 My recs so far have been non-horrifying, how about some elusive monstrosities and body mutilation? From @horrorsong.blog and Joanna C Galdone
Wingspan of Severed Hands by Joe Koch cover is yellow on black photo collage and shows a woman's torso and leg emerging from a cloud of dust, and a hand with a beam of light passing through it vertically. Tailypo, possibly the world's scariest picture book according to my weak-ass friends who despite being adults were terrified and mad at me for showing it to them. Illustrations by Paul Galdone (I believe was the author's father). Cover shows a creature with a long tail hiding in some reeds.

For sure, but I've talked with plenty of people in real life who thought this. Horror writers get this, too (not necessarily that they commit crimes, but that they're into torture or whatever). It's weird because I don't hear this anecdotally from people who write mystery or sff.

I know how that goes. I once tried keeping the timeline in a computer file instead, but that just meant I didn't look at it while writing.

October recs day 3 Here are two AU-with-magic and queer MCs that I enjoyed. Despite the inclusion of ghosts I would call both autumnal rather than spooky. Dionysus in Wisconsin by @pretensesoup.bsky.social is mysterious and plotty while A Little Familiar by @rcooper.bsky.social is melanchozy.
Dionysus in Wisconson by EH Lupton
cover is orange with black painted figures in the style of a Greek amphora. Cover is a cut-paper design of a raven with a flower, black on tan background
