Part 10 Kylo finds both torment and bliss at the Winter Festival #24DaysOfReylo #reylo #reylofic

Photograph of a dogsled team running along a snowy forest path at sunset, from the perspective of the person in the sled

The Winter Festival is a hugely popular annual event that takes place over the course of a week at an old historic fort at the edge of the city. Tickets sell out weeks in advance, but Kylo was able to call in favour from a former client to get them in after Rey expressed her disappointment at not being able to go.
They arrive early in the afternoon, when things are in full swing. Just before getting out of the car, Rey puts on a pair of earmuffs that have cat ears atop the headband. He has to take a moment to sit with that image.
Unsurprisingly, Kylo isn't a fan of the crowds, but Rey takes in the scene with unbridled enthusiasm. Even though he is the one who has attended the Festival in the past, it's Rey who leads him through the organized chaos, guiding him first to the fire juggler's show then on to the axe throwing demonstration.

Part 13 What starts as a fun shopping trip, ends up sending Kylo into something of a spiral #24DaysOfReylo #reylo #reylofic

People walking down a path under an archway of white Christmas lights, with a glowing purple, pink and orange sunset in the background

He has to utilize some of the breathing techniques taught to him by a long-ago therapist to stay calm.
He knows he's being completely irrational. He has no claim on Rey, they're just friends, and he has no right to feel this angry watching the early-twenties sales kid at Sk8s hit on her. That does nothing to stop the arcid coil of jealousy pooling in his gut.
After being released from their snowy prison, they'd decided to return to The Verge Market, aka the site of the Whipped Cream Incident, to shop for gifts for their friends.
That, and Kylo wanted to get Rey the pair of ice skates he had promised the previous week, during her first foray into the sport. Admittedly, he hadn't said he would be the one to buy them for her, but he thought it would be a nice surprise.

Today’s ficlet brings us nervous wreck Ben as he tries to prepare Rey to meet his dysfunctional family 🤭 archiveofourown.org/works/610132... #24DaysOfReylo #reylofic #reylo

Screenshots of the notes app that say:

"I'm warning you now, they can be a lot to get used to." He fidgeted with the strap of his bag again, sure any more movement would snap the thing clean off.

"And I keep telling you, that's fine. I'm excited to finally meet them." Her smile was meant to be comforting but it only made him teel worse.

"You're saying that because you don't actually know what they're like. Just what I've told you about them. And-I can say this now that you've agreed to marry me—I only shared the tamest stories." Her eyebrow rose at that but he went on. "I won't blame you if you want to stay at a hotel instead. In fact, I won't blame you if you decide to call the whole thing off-the visit, not the wedding; it's too late for that. We can hop back on a plane and be gone before they know—"

Her tinkling laugh had him shutting his mouth for what felt like the first time since
they boarded the plane this morning.
Relaxing in spite of the monumental disaster about to go down, he pulled her against his side, whispering one last assurance that they could leave at any time before guiding them both through the pick-up lanes outside.

The honks were the first thing they heard.
The embarrassing 'Welcome Home!' banner his parents somehow rigged to the top of their car greeted them next before the main event themselves popped their doors open and rushed out.

It was overwhelming and nerve-wracking and according to the security guard telling them off, against the rules.

The day was filled with what felt like endless introductions and then, of course, came the boisterous laughs and good-natured yelling.
It was even worse than he'd warned her it would be, and yet he watched his Rey throw herself into the fray as if she was always meant to be there in the first place.

"Ben, I don't know what you were talking about." Her cheeks were rosy thanks to the drink his father kept topping up, her shirt stained with what looked suspiciously like his mother's famous lasagna. "Your family is amazing!"

She got pulled away again, happy to join in the festivities, and looking at the joy on her face, he couldn't help but agree. His family was pretty amazing.

Part 16 It's Rey's turn to have a *very important* realization #24DaysOfReylo #reylo #reyloficB

Rey closes the door of her - his - the guest room - behind her.
She's in so much trouble.
Usually she can see danger coming from a mile away, but this time she's been blindsided. Left herself completely vulnerable.
In her defense, she has no real frame of reference for this. Her childhood had been one of deprivation, not just of her physical needs, but perhaps more devastatingly, her emotional ones. She's learned to survive on the scraps of other people's begrudging attention.
Spending so much time with Kylo recently has been a revelation. At every turn, he has stunned her with the way he gives with both hands, willingly - no happily. She already knew he was a good man. Knew he was considerate and attentive in a way that drew her in right from the start. But these last few weeks he has been lavishing her with a level of care she would swear only existed in books if she wasn't experiencing it first hand.

"Ben, hi." Oh great, now he really was hallucinating. Except, everyone else at the table looked in the direction of the voice, too.

Turning along with them, he saw her: his hazel-eyed, pouty-lipped, take-no-shit neighbour. Standing there in a little green dress that brought out the same colour in her eyes, she was even more gorgeous than the first night he saw her. He felt possessive, all of a sudden.
