Once you get used to the luxury of flavors and textures that make up the SEAsian working class lunch, you start to pity our western counterparts and their sad sandwiches.

I spent the past couple of days in Melaka, wandering around lil alleys and cafes and quaint museums. What a lovely place. Kudos to the Tourism Board - such good infra and really well thought out activities. I loved it.

carl hates immigrants so much he won't even brown his steak

Carl Benjamin tweets: "It was delicious." The tweet shows two photos: one of a steak cooking in a shallow non-stick pan; the other is of the same steak plated. The meat is gray in both images.

This year was my first year of consistently working out - a combination of strength training, pilates and Muay Thai. I’ve not felt this great in forever (maybe even ever!) and am so happy to have found a routine that works for me. I want to be strong & healthy for my family and kids

The citizenship amendment that both gives Msian mothers the right to confer citizenship & takes away citizenship pathways for groups that are now going to be at risk for statelessness is a very personal issue to me bc of my own son (a foreigner) and how it’s not retroactive. I feel I’ve failed him

Last year, I published a book on statelessness in Peninsular Msia - the 1st to comprehensively look at the issue. It was cited during debates in parliament - reaching the highest level of policymaking. Months later, a constitutional amendment was enacted that worsened statelessness. I am jaded now

I was thrown into management quite suddenly - a path I never thought I’d taken as an academic. And my learning curve has been painfully steep. I’m finally realizing that you sort of need to be mean as a female boss - which really sucks. Empathy and kindness is getting me kicked around

I took a walk with my daughter today who can’t go to school because there’s an HFMD outbreak and the health ministry is only letting them return in two weeks 🙈 So I decided to FFK everybody at work and stay home with her today

After years of trying to carry cute canvas totes and slings and blablabla I’ve realized that the best mode to carry shit around is a backpack, so I shouldn’t have left my fresh off the PhD train new mom life behind, because I just bought this

it’s sad reading like 14th century Christian theologians who spent an inordinate amount of time writing “OK there are exactly 3,892 demons and these are their names and these are their powers”… man, you would have loved Dragonball Z

I regularly buy myself flowers because 1) one of my good friends runs a floral store and 2) I just really like flowers okay 😂 I’m named after a flower, my sister is too, and my daughter!

The Biden White House has said you don’t need to wear a mask if you’re vaccinated, hidden breakthrough infections, dismissed high COVID spread, downplayed Long COVID and more. Sadly, they too have played a role in allowing the anti-vax movement to grow.

The anti-vaccine movement is on the rise. The White House is at a loss over what to do about it.

“They keep just hoping it’ll go away.”
