Great video from @mixedlinguist.bsky.social. I noticed the rise of the glottal stop in the past couple of years, though I didn’t know how to describe what I was hearing, figuring some people just don’t enunciate the same. Turns out it’s both regional and generational. Fascinating.

The longest Etruscan text we have was preserved because the linen it was written on was recycled to wrap a mummy in the 3rd century BC. It may be the oldest surviving book in Europe and we still can’t really translate it.
The unwound mummy wrappings with clear text visible. The wrappings are red as though they were covered in blood (though I doubt this is the case)
