I have to give a special call out to the sets, props, costumes, and all the other practical effects that went into making the RiffTrax Experiments. Your efforts were seen and very much appreciated! It really does give this revival the heart and soul of the original. Wonderful stuff @rifftrax.com!

We had to wait for the second showing, but it was well worth it! Loved the mix of MST3K-style jokes with some RiffTrax callbacks ("Keep rolling!"). It's everything I wanted. If Sting of Death is any indication of what we're in for, then it's a very good time to be a MSTie! Bring on the rest!

Finally got a chance to see Coyote Vs Acme today. Surprise! It's really good. Great story, lots of genuinely funny moments, and it even had heart. I'm glad I was able to see it in theaters.

I'm super hyped for Metroid Ravenous and being able to use Samus' powers to devour her enemies. That said, I can't be the only one who also immediately thought of Cell from DBZ Abridged. 😆

Fun fact about MST3K @rifftrax.com. The initial airdate of the last episode of the Sci-fi era was on my birthday. Today, on the premier of the MST3K Experiments, it's my sister's birthday! We're both huge fans, so the connections are pretty special even if they're just huge coincidences.

Skeleton Knight, Trapped in an Otome Game, and Jobless Reincarnation all dropping new seasons right now? Mmmm... it's a banquet of some of my favorite isekai all at once! Jobless has been consistently good. I'm hoping the other two can maintain the spark that made their first seasons so much fun.

How are we only 4 episodes in to the second season of X-men '97 and it's already surpassing the first season? The first season was great, but felt a bit scattered. Not this time. "Alas, only a coward feels mighty when stepping on ants." That's a hard way to end an episode.

Today is officially the 30th anniversary of Steamed Hams. On April 14, 1996, "22 Short Films About Springfield" aired for the first time!

Steamed Hams full transcript

Well, Seymour, I made it- despite your directions.
Ah.
Superintendent Chalmers.
Welcome.
- I hope you're prepared for an unforgettable luncheon.
- Yeah.
Oh, egads! My roast is ruined.
But what if I were to purchase fast food and disguise it as my own cooking? Delightfully devilish, Seymour.
Ah- Skinner with his crazy explanations The superintendent's gonna need his medication When he hears Skinner's lame exaggerations There'll be trouble in town tonight Seymour! Superintendent, I was just- uh, just stretching my calves on the windowsill.
Isometric exercise.
Care to join me? Why is there smoke coming out of your oven, Seymour? Uh- Oh.
That isn't smoke.
It's steam.
Steam from the steamed clams we're having.
Mmm.
Steamed clams.
Whew.
Superintendent, I hope you're ready for mouthwatering hamburgers.
I thought we were having steamed clams.
D'oh, no.
I said steamed hams.
That's what I call hamburgers.
You call hamburgers steamed hams? Yes.
It's a regional dialect.
- Uh-huh.
Uh, what region? - Uh, upstate New York.
Really.
Well, I'm from Utica, and I've never heard anyone use the phrase "steamed hams.
" Oh, not in Utica.
No.
It's an Albany expression.
I see.
You know, these hamburgers are quite similar to the ones they have at Krusty Burger.
Oh, no.
Patented Skinner burgers.
Old family recipe.
- For steamed hams.
- Yes.
Yes.
And you call them steamed hams despite the fact that they are obviously grilled.
Ye- You know, the- One thing I should- - Excuse me for one second.
- Of course.
Well, that was wonderful.
A good time was had by all.
I'm pooped.
Yes.
I should be- Good Lord! What is happening in there? - Aurora borealis.
- Uh- Aurora borealis at this time of year at this time of day in this part of the country localized entirely within your kitchen? - Yes.
- May I see it? No.
Seymour.
! The house is on fire.
! No, Mother.
It's just the northern lights.
Well, Seymour, you are an odd fellow but I must say you steam a good ham.

A healthy film industry makes sleazy movies. Weird, borderline kink films are like coal mine canaries- they're offensive, often deeply personal, and a foil to the clean blandness of big budget propaganda. A lack of bizarre "not to everyone's taste" films is an indicator of a sickly studio ecosystem.

Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of great stuff in the original MHA, but Deku became so much less interesting as he acquired more powers (as did Shigarakai), IMO. Meanwhile, Vigilantes gave us the real best hero: Knuckleduster. No spoilers, but I was way more invested in his story by the end.
