Visited Monticello w/the family yesterday and can report the “slavery tour” is still as honest about the violence endured and resilience and resistance offered as it ever was. Bought a new book about Sonya Clark’s 2022 art installation on Robert Hemings, too.
Book cover for declaration house. It is brown with windows and door of an 18th century building. Eyes peer through windows & startle.

It’s therapeutic to research eras I don’t know but always wanted to study. I might need to add a 4th person to my profile meme.

History surprises. Turns out I descend for Robert Ashton, a Quaker who settled in Delaware ca1686. I visted the site of his land and his son John’s 1706 house. John’s daughter wed a Quaker from NJ and so forth down to my mother’s family only a few miles from this site.

Agree except I think we are already well into it. Colin Campbell’s Romantic Ethic & Spirit of Modern Consumerism (1987) argues for cycles of romanticism in response to capitalist/Econ/tech etc surges. Just think of all the romantic/boho Arts & HUMs movements!

Major kudos to MIT, who just put out a report about AI on their campus that lucidly explains the threat posed by AI to cognition and the student experience, while at the same time prioritizes learning, students, and the value of education. 1/x aiandeducation.mit.edu/report/

Wake up, babe. The Prime Minister just dropped “hydronym”.
The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is big”.

The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.

We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms.

Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.

We make jokes about “sad girl” and “sad boy” books, but we don’t want to think of this as a sad table. “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.” Dolly Parton, Tim Curry & Yayoi Kusama made the world brighter, bolder, stranger and more joyful. We’re very glad they happened. 💗

Dolly Parton knew what it was like to struggle as she fought for working families her whole career. From providing free books to kids to giving working women our "9 to 5" anthem, she was an icon and an inspiration. Rest in power to our union sister. We will always love you.

Some of the richest people in the world want a racial caste system, and they want scholarly backing for that in the form of racist pseudoscience. And a lot of ostensibly non racist people quietly agree, and don’t like to see those who peddle that pseudoscience excluded from mainstream institutions.

This. But I have to say, having reviewed 100s of syllabi for classes that transfer students took at accredited institutions, there is a LOT of discredited stuff being taught out there. Across all fields. ESP at, um, certain kinds of private schools.

Plagiarism is only one part of a much broader scope of academic misconduct, and ‘race realism’ is itself a form of academic misconduct: using academia to launder long-discredited and empirically refuted white supremacist propaganda. It is disseminating pernicious lies into broader society

The data sets people like Cofnas rely on are demonstrably refuted and superseded by far more rigorous data. They use these false data sets *because* the data is false. There is no other way for them to provide the simulacra of rigour they pretend to have. They know it is lies. It is anti-scholarship
