I barely "promoted" anything this summer thanks to "The Business™", but I'll be presenting "Fake it Til' You Make It: Mocking Reality So Your Tests Can Run" at posit::conf(2026) this Wednesday in Houston! Say hi if you see me! Not sure if it's me? Look for the purple and pink hair! 🤸🏾‍♀️💜🩷

My talk “Fake it Til' You Make It: Mocking Reality So Your Tests Can Run” was accepted for #positconf2026 🎉 A software testing focused talk this time, and a reflection of where I’ve been putting my energy lately: Python, AWS, testing, and engineering flavored work. Excited for this one!
Illustrated conference announcement graphic styled like a taped notebook page on a textured blue background. Large hand drawn text reads “Fake It Til’ You Make It:” with smaller handwritten text below saying “Mocking Reality So Your Tests Can Run.” A colorful striped snake curves across the lower half of the page. A yellow sticky note pinned to the paper reads “posit::conf(2026), Houston, TX U.S, 2026-09-16.”

One thing that’s helping me on my polyglot journey is using small visual things that make my brain feel “at home” after seven years in R and the tidyverse. Emojis in my test results do exactly that. testthat will always be my ride-or-die, but pytest-emoji is fun. 🐍 pypi.org/project/pyte...
A terminal window with a dark purple theme shows the output of a pytest test session. It displays Python version 3.13.1, pytest 9.0.1, pluggy 1.6.0, and plugins for coverage and emoji. The test runner reports 22 collected tests. Each test file name appears followed by a long row of smiling-emoji indicators and a percentage: test_art_pals.py at 68%, test_main.py at 72%, and test_utils.py at 100%. Below, a coverage summary table lists three modules (__init__.py, _utils.py, palettes.py) all with 100% coverage and zero missed statements. At the bottom, it shows “22 passed in 0.62s” with a highlighted success message.
