I could count the other masked folks that I saw at #AAPM2025 on one hand, but there is a mountain of evidence that covid causes long-term issues, one of them being that it is oncogenic. I'm not sure why medical physicists aren't protecting themselves. 😷

With #AAPM2025 being 'local'(ish) for me, I've spent Monday and today in clinic so other folks could be at the meeting, but I DID put together this POV video from Sunday - navigating from the conference hotel to the meeting space in my power wheelchair. Check it out here: youtu.be/k2PiOhbyBUE?...

I REALLY wish we had live open captions. There's a way to enable it in PowerPoint, just takes a bit more IT/networking support. The acoustics are decent here way in the back, now that everyone is talking directly into the mic (often a problem!!).

Mario Gallardo has a poster presentation on Sunday, July 28th, between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. in the Exhibit Hall. It is entitled: Evaluating the impact of an average versus machine specific dosimetric leaf gap on dose calculation. He also has a poster up for general viewing! #AAPM2025
Automation of clinical protocol imports for treatment planning system version update compatibility.

Abstract/purpose: updates to the varian eclipse treatment planning system have introduced new objects to replace pre-existing clinical protocols to aid clinicians in plan quality assessment. We have created a program for updating clinical protocol files and creating clinical gold templates to be compatible with the eclipse version 18 format.Evaluating the impact of an average versus machine specific dosometric leaf cap on dose calculation, presented Sunday, July 27th from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the exhibit hall poster lounge at Walter e Washington convention Center.

Abstract, purpose: the newest version of a large commercial treatment planning system has introduced a new physical MLC model. We compare the impact of using an average dosometric leaf gap value versus machine specific dosimetric leaf Gap values across four varian true beam linear accelerators using the updated MLC model. We quantify the extent of calculated dose changes within the expected dlg range.

A thread to highlight some sessions and posters at #AAPM2025 that include members of the Accessibility Subcommittee! (Not necessarily about ASC-related topics, just our work) First up, Natalie Viscariello will give a talk entitled Creating Safe Space for Everyone: for All Levels of Ability.
The session is called: across the rainbow, creating safe space for everyone

Monday, July 28th, 2025, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. in room 201 of the Walter E Washington convention Center

Description: medical physicists work on complex clinical teams in many respects from the multidisciplinary teams including physicians to do symmetrists as well as people from various backgrounds, beliefs and lifestyles. Understanding more objectively how each person experiences the same space is vital to developing trust, empathy, and better team collaboration and communication. This session will allow all participants to hear how marginalized voices in our field experience their workplace and give voice to points of view that rarely get the spotlight. Members of aapm's equity, diversity, and inclusion committee will lead the discussion on what it means to be a medical physicist from their community and how they managed to be authentic in the clinic, classroom and beyond and give advice on how to create space for everyone to feel included, valued, seen, and heard.

It's really hard to tell at this point but I think years from now this will be one of the most destructive things that RFK Jr did at HHS. Mammograms, FIT tests and colonoscopies, diabetes, blood pressure, depression screens. All of these are as widely available as they are because of USPSTF.
