Three years ago, the Free Beacon ironically named me man of the year on their website. "Don’t give up Ben, you have a whole lot of nothing to look forward to," they wrote. This year, I was on a TIME100 list. I would take this moment to tell them how they can suck me: from the back. Thank you.
We don’t know about Ben’s family or personal finances, but we certainly can’t disagree about his lack of skills. But for someone with absolutely no ability, Ben has found the perfect gig.

Don’t give up Ben, you have a whole lot of nothing to look forward to. Only now, when you do nothing, you'll do it as a Free Beacon Man of the Year.I win.

I don't know anybody that wants this? LLMs are tools that should sit idle and quiet until needed, do a job, then go away until needed again. I don't want a digital town where these extremely expensive-to-run tools and I just hang out.

I don't know if it was a meme and never real, but those "USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST" on web forums always made me laugh. Social media sites need this. It's very funny.

I reported vulnerabilities to the Linux kernel and OpenZFS assisted by GLM-5.2. Anthropic's cyber program and refusal responses are detrimental to global information security. Defenders depend on GLM because they can't depend on Anthropic.

I really like Muse Spark 1.3 so far, I'm going to be very sad when it leaves OpenCode.

So.. if frontier labs quit creating new models every 5 freaking seconds.. there's a chance they'd actually be profitable *and* we wouldn't need nearly as many new data centers? Pass a law that prohibits them from creating more than one one new model every two years.. solves a LOT of problems.

States are trying to incorrectly apply gambling laws to a federally regulated commodities market. It's black and white not allowed. You can dislike that, but that's how it is.

Okay a tiny thread because people are going to freak out: This exploit in particular takes advantage of a special command that renders images (via attribute escape). If you have an overlay that processes images (most don't) then yes, this is your problem. Overlay must explicitly create img DOM.
A picture of the exploit, using a command that explicitly includes an image file extension, but also would escape out of the src attribute of an image such than an onerror attribute can be added to the img tag. This onerror attribute can run explicit javascript immediately.

Default behavior for most chat widgets is if you have an image it will not attempt to modify image links into actual HTML image tags. Your overlay/overlay service must explicitly be doing this for you.

Daaamn. I had Muse Spark 1.3 refactor Trade Wars 2002 (WWIV 4.0 door game in Turbo Pascal) to Java (replacing door stuff with local console) and it *seems* to mostly work. That's INSANE considering almost all the variables are single letters as if it was decompiled source.

Been using Muse Spark 1.3 (Meta's latest, I think?) through OpenCode CLI for a few days and so far I'm decently happy with it. It looks like I need to give it a global MD file to work with, it makes poor assumptions like Python being installed on your PC to do work with.

Hrm. I didn't realize FreeFileSync source code was available so I peeked at the license. As far as I know you can't do this, this violates the GPL. You can't add restrictions to GPLv3 of any kind, much less forbidding commercial use. Section 7 does not allow this.

Anyway making a local language translator for Twitch chat (yes I know there are bots for that already). This is just a test of the translation inference. Already have a CPU analyzer to decide if a msg is English or not, this part translates text on my GPU. No cloud calls.

"cargo check" produced 666 lines (not joking) of Rust compiler error output for my 234 line source file, which is actually 141 lines if you ignore a lookup table that doesn't have any errors in it. .... bruh

May 1st 2025 I asked Gemini to list all MCU films sorted by theatrical release date (it did), then to create a timeline made up of posters. Even 18 months ago it could not do text. I tried again today and.. the more powerful LLMs become the more worthless they are.

If I were a billionaire, I'd create a non-profit foundation to fund massive amounts of in-depth long-form journalism. Democracy requires the public to be well-informed and... yeah, that's not currently happening.

If I were a billionaire I'd setup dozens of women's health clinics on the border of every red state (obv can't do that with two adjoining red states but..), I'd literally surround them with health care. And I don't understand why no liberal billionaires have done this.

Pen, watercolor, black & white charcoal pencil.

Another featured piece from the Spooky Pants book.

A man in a sweater stands with his hands on his hips looking out of a large window with the curtains open. Things aren’t looking good outside, reader. A massive winged demon is emerging from the clouds as dozens of little ghosts and bone demons rip through the sky. On the ground below we see townsfolk running through the grass. Our man in the window is in no mood for this. He lets us know, “Oh, I am in no mood for this.” His dog looks out the window as well, wagging its tail.

Fantasia (1940) inspired drawing. I think I could’ve gone a little heavier with the chaos outside but we’ll try again with fresh drawings this October. I like how the clouds turned out. Trying to balance my sloppy lines with more detail can be tricky but I think we achieved a good result.

This is what I'm thinking about when I say way too many people formed negative opinions of LLMs in the era before thinking/reasoning models but refuse to update their views. This lecture was about 11 months before the release of o1, OpenAI's first reasoning model that changed EVERYTHING.
