Meaux @meauxthedev.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Is this because I said Star Wars 2 is bad? Look man I get it, I like movies people dislike too, but this is strange behavior. 100
Meaux @meauxthedev.bsky.social · 09/10/2026My point is that the Prequels are George Lucas unfiltered and unpolished. They're being reevaluated because they're flawed films with interesting messages and lore. Compared to the sequels which are kind of empty imitations of better films. I think calling it media illiteracy is a cynical take. 120
Meaux @meauxthedev.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Meanwhile Star Wars 1, 2, and 3 are all credited with George in both the director and writer positions. Unfiltered free reign, for better and worse. It doesn't take a Pepe Silvia board to have this info, just some behind the scenes featurettes and article diving. Well Read =! Media Literate 000
Meaux @meauxthedev.bsky.social · 09/10/2026This is a weird hill to die on but sure. If you see the credits for Star Wars V and VI the direction and writing seats were handed off to two other directors. George did direct A New Hope, but was also reigned in by Marcia Lou Lucas, his wife at the time, who edited the damn thing. 300
Meaux @meauxthedev.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Great post here actually pointing out that Bracket, despite being credited, didn't have any of his content from his script in the movie. Have not read this book but it's a solid bit of info and maybe the prequels could've been a better series if they had this kind of willingness to cut chaff. 200
Meaux @meauxthedev.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Neither, this was due to the credits of the movie listing both writers. I was unaware of this book, and would have nothing to gain from pretending if I knew of it. This also doesn't disprove any point that the original trilogy was a collaborative creative effort behind the scenes. 100
Meaux @meauxthedev.bsky.social · 09/10/2026The prequels have a lot more issues than just clunky boring writing, it'd take Dexter Jetster's hands to count the amount of strange racist caricatures/stereotypes in those movies, but they felt clunky in the way a human would make something, not a committee. 100
Meaux @meauxthedev.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Compare to the sequel trilogy, a corporate product that is very pretty and shiny, but ultimately has nothing to say. Star Wars 8 was the closest to almost saying something but the story was so muddled with twists that it kept tripping over itself (also it's sooooooo slooooooow) 110
Meaux @meauxthedev.bsky.social · 09/10/2026The problem is, the vision is there. He is trying to say something. Star Wars 2 may be my least favorite Star Wars movie (it's so damn slooooooow) but the way it illustrates the Jedi's self satisfaction and arrogance, perfectly paints their downfall as basically the biggest religion. 100
Meaux @meauxthedev.bsky.social · 09/10/2026With the Prequels, George was the sole director and writer. The vision was there, just none of the polish. George is really good at making something a young boy would point at and yell "cool!" But not good at making a well written story/dialogue to make it work. A large machine with rusty parts. 100
Meaux @meauxthedev.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Star Wars 5 was directed by Irvin Kershner written by Leigh Brackett and Lawrence Kasdan adapting the rough draft by George Lucas. Star wars 6 was Directed by Richard Marquand and once again written by Kasdan with George Lucas. Talented writers/directors that could interpret George's vision. 200
Meaux @meauxthedev.bsky.social · 09/10/2026This is not to say I hate the prequels, I like what the core themes of Religious arrogance, political manipulation, and just straight up apathy. The problem is it's all wrapped up in a story that was written and directed by someone who isn't a good director or writer. 110
Meaux @meauxthedev.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Hi it's me falling for the bait here. The Star Wars prequels are the perfect example of a creator's vision done badly. What made the original Star Wars trilogy work was it was a product of a lot of creative people polishing the final product from a rough idea to a media cornerstone. 130
