No point in rushing to finish a great book to start another potentially great book but I suspect we are all often tempted to do so…the ‘switch’ will have to wait until tomorrow… #booksky

Finally got round to watching Rings of Power s2. Overall enjoyed it, looking forward to s3. So far I would say the biggest missed opportunity is with the Numenorians. Ultimately this should be a story about ethnic supremacy, imperial chauvinism and mythical hubris. #rop #trop #fantasy

In my writing, I look for striking imagery to inspire. In this painting of the Siege of La Rochelle (Henri-Paul Motte), Cardinal Richelieu oversees a naval attack against protestant foes. What's rather interesting is that he stands on an elaborate platform. I believe atop hulks. #writing #art
Richelieu stands before stormy waters, not on a natural landmass but a man-made platform from which to organise.

Kazuo Ishiguro’s next novel, out next year, will be a 1930s spy caper.
Kazuo Ishiguro, the feted Nobel laureate behind Never Let Me Go and Remains of the Day, has announced his next novel. Miss Lambert Steps Aboard Danger—a spy caper set in the 1930s—will be published…

Empires come and empires go, leaving signs of former power. The winged lion of St Mark can be seen in many places about the Mediterranean, telling of the once dominant trading & military power that was Venice. One day, the spouting vanity of today’s tyrants will be but dust, and history their judge.
A winged lion bearing a tablet in its claws carved onto a decorated (castellated) stone and mounted on a wall. The lion has a halo around its head.

“Orwell's vision of our terrible future was that world - the world in which books are banned or burned. Yet it is not the most terrifying world I can think of. I think instead of Huxley [...] I think of his Brave New World. His vision was the more terrible, especially now because it appears to be rapidly coming true, whereas the world of 1984 did not. What is Huxley's horrific vision? It is a world where there is no need for books to be banned, because no one can be bothered to read one.”

Hi! I’m an illustrator from London. This account does little illustrations with cute little animals, trying to go for lighthearted but occasionally deeper. Hello everyone! ✨
A drawing of a capybara looking at a rose bud and telling them “No rush, take your time”. The animal is drawn in full black brush strokes. An illustration of a crow lying on the floor surrounded by a semi-circle of ducklings. One of the ducklings asks “You okay?” and the crow replies “Uhhhhh”. The illustration style draws all the animals in full black brush strokes, on a bright colored background, burgundy. An illustration of a goat telling their rabbit friend “Take your meds” and the rabbit responds “Ok ok”. The illustration style draws the characters in full black brush strokes, on a pink and purple background. An illustration of a smartphone on the floor shouting “Breaking news” and a cat on the side hissing at it. The illustration style draws the characters in full black brush strokes, on a grey painted background and yellow halo around the phone.
