Ukraine secures deal for Patriot missile package, Zelensky says
President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine has reached an agreement to receive a package of missiles for its Patriot air defense systems. He made the announcement during a meeting with members and leaders of the Ukrainian community in the United States on Thursday, September 24, without specifying which country had agreed to provide the missiles.
“We agreed today (September 23 – ed.), I won't say with whom, on a package of missiles for the Patriot systems. This is an important decision,” the president said.
Zelensky also noted that the United Nations platform had strengthened the capabilities of Ukraine and other nations. “We signed a security agreement with Australia. This is Ukraine’s thirtieth security agreement and, historically, the first such agreement with a country outside NATO and the EU. This is a real contribution. We also signed a Drone Deal with Finland. This is a powerful result that benefits both countries,” Zelensky said.
He added that the Ukrainian delegation held 20 meetings with leaders of various countries during the UN General Assembly.
Overnight on September 24, Russia launched attacks on Ukraine using missiles and 282 drones of different types. Air defense units destroyed most of the targets, but some struck their objectives. In Kyiv, two people were killed and eight wounded in a Russian attack. Fires and destruction were reported in three districts of the capital.
