Ormund Hightower: HBO miniseries about rich people being rude to each other (he plays the Laura Dern character) okay that’s all I got for now

Lady Arryn? Austen prestige miniseries Daemon? Action movie supervillain Mysaria? Bond villain (complimentary) Helaena? rapidly canceled Whedon side project (complimentary to her performance but not to him)

Do I believe for a single second that Oscar “Disney Movie Tween” Tully exists in the same universe as Viserys “Phantom of the Opera” Targaryen? No, I do not! But also, who cares

100

Alys Rivers is in some kind of Charmed-era witchy medieval soap, Ser Gwayne is in a Shakespeare play, Rhaenyra’s in Chekhov, Aegon is doing FULL diva satire and wants you to know he knows it, etc.

One thing that fascinates me about House of the Dragon is that many of the characters seem to exist in entirely different worlds, but those worlds are all pretty fun ones?

Also the same tired argument made by those who claim progressivism while opposing progressive policies: "Well, *innocent* people should be released from prison, sure! But we still need to lock up the bad guys." Which drives a wedge further between those groups while reinforcing the overall system.

We saw this exact take in Silence of the Lambs decades ago: the killer isn't a "real transsexual" because (as everyone knows) they're "very passive." Not saying trans people are murderers! Just that people functionally indistinguishable from trans people are murderers, hope that clears things up.

Not a pivot, but a classic: "Of course *real* trans people should be allowed to transition, we can all agree on that! I just also think that *most* people who *claim* to be trans are lying, and are scary predators intent on destroying society."

ohhhh man, I just realized that since I am teaching a media & crime course this semester, I have a built-in excuse to introduce a new generation to one of my favorite videos on the whole wide internet: the Eric Adams "search your child's room for drugs and guns" PSA

An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play

The Campaign to Force Genital Exams on Girl Athletes Soon Washington State could require sex-verification tests for those playing sports in schools.

Those physicals, Maria explains, are usually perfunctory: “Like, Are you walking normally? Are you lightheaded? I have never had to take any clothes off. I’ve never felt uncomfortable or violated.” If IL26-638 were to pass and Maria were still in school, she says she would likely drop out of her team. (We’re withholding Maria’s real name to protect her privacy.) “I honestly don’t know if I would be able to do these tests,” she adds. “It would also make me question, If I do it, are all my teammates going to too? Or would I just play with the three or four girls who are willing to or have access to do it?”

Watching ICE agents literally run away from a Mount Laurel Starbucks without their coffee because the neighborhood completely rejected them is pure gold. South Jersey will make you unwelcome every single time you show your faces.

RFK Jr. asked the National Institute of Health to dedicate $5 billion (!) to finding a link between vaccines and autism. "That would have dedicated more than a tenth of the NIH’s annual budget to investigating a hypothesis already refuted by scientists worldwide."
