Someone on Reddit posted about initiative in D&D forcing combat when he doesn't necessarily want to attack. D&D describes initiative as "combat" it really is when the stakes are critical and timing matters. Read more here: stygianlabyrinth.net/pc-101-initi... #dnd #ttrpg #playeradvice

Initiative does not require you to attack. Learn how to use Insight, Influence, Ready actions, movement, magic, and de-escalation to manage tense situations in 2024 Dungeons & Dragons.

I see this as a "how do you want to die?" question, because I'm not winning either fight. So I think I'd rather die by bear than by rat horde.

Yeah, it sure looks like a trace to me. No construction or exploration lines at all. The lines that are there don't look like the person putting them down had any understanding of how shapes work.

That's me every time I see a black CJ.

As a dad trying to convince the family to watch Coyote vs Acme and Ghost in the Shell... yes. 😆

Wish I could thank her, because that one thing has helped me for literally years.

Every boy has to try a fedora or trilby phase at some point. It's always a mistake, but we have to find out.

One tiny act of kindness by a person that saw that I was not doing so great completely changed my day, and reminded me that I wasn't as alone as I thought I was. Even if the company I had were kind strangers. So be nice when you can, I guess. We're all just trying to make it through The Horrors.

That was September 17th. It's saved in my calendar every year as a kind of personal holiday: "Tim Horton Cookie Day." I'm not often near a Timmies anymore, but try to have a cookie that I date anyway as a reminder.

Screenshot of a calendar entry titled "Vancouver Tim Hortons Cookie Day", Sept 17, repeats yearly. With a note: "You got a free 🙂 cookie in the Tim Hortons drive through when you were having a rough day."

130

And once I got to the window, the woman there handed me my coffee and said "hold on a sec." She came back with a great big cookie that had a 🙂 painted on it, and warmly said "I think you need this." I thanked her, and drove away with tears in my eyes - but smiling.

I reshared this comic yesterday, but keep thinking about it. It reminds me of when, a few years ago, I was having a horrible day in the middle of several horrible months. I was alone, away from home, and feeling very beaten down. I stopped to get coffee at Tim Hortons drive-thru in Vancouver...

This was the footage Masao Maruyama showed to a room of us at Otakon while wearily expressing uncertainty about Koike ever finishing the actual movie because he kept insisting on doing everything himself.

The crusaders.

'We make LESS but things cost MORE!' says Girl. 'RETVRN!' cries a crusading Cat. 'To when we made less and things cost the same! Weather is spiraling out of control - with 2 degrees of warming baked in.' 'RETVRN!' cries Cat. 'To weather spiraling out of control with 1.5 degrees of warming baked in' says Girl. 'People aren't going to the emergency room because they're afraid of immigration-' 'RETVRN!' '-they should be NOT GOING because they CAN'T AFFORD IT! Leopards are eating my face=' 'RETVRN!' '- to when leopards were eating YOUR face!' 'RETVRN to 2015!' cries Cat. 'Sound the battle horn!' yells Girl. Cat plays a long golden horn, which blasts out the sound 'GOOD ENOUGH.' 'Now we just wait for an army to assemble,' says Cat. They wait.

it’s sword time

A young woman with a DIY looking mechanical arm holds a glowing sword out in front of her, the blade looks like its made from some kind of energy. Shes wearing a leather jacket and a cape. She seems serious but is probably cool if you get to know her.

This is great, and hits close to home for me. Tech is a bloodbath right now, and "getting out" is something that comes up often on conversation with friends and colleagues. I was that driver for a while too (without AI), after a layoff.

If it were Trump alone I might agree, but he's not the only person working on this. They may be fascists, but they're not all stupid and at least a couple of people in the room know not to put all of their eggs into one basket. I don't think his behavior alone is enough to rule out other bad actors.

101

Would bet good money that they've already worked on this. It's horrible, but inevitable.

Some grit and flaws give a comic texture. Like punk rock, I like comics with rough edges that care less about perfect tuning and precision, and more about making me feel something tactile.

000

It's heavy out there, so here's some zen. If I was bummed out, this guy could obliterate it in 2 seconds. He's not here anymore but can still do it 🙂

I was chatting with a student last week about some of the best ways to draw a thrown punch, then came across this tonight on a speed-read through old X-Men comics. Man, it doesn't get much better than Paul Smith/Bob Wiacek.

I've used Vistaprint for quick/cheap business cards, banners, etc for literally decades at this point and that is OVER. What a stupid decision on their part.

I've heard about a few instances of this lately. Like you, I've used them for years, sent clients to them too. Never again.

All dogs are the best dogs, but this guy was truly lightning in a bottle. Today is the anniversary of Fisher's adoption day. He went over the rainbow bridge a year go this Saturday after 19 (!!) years. He spit that spinach leaf out right after this. It was worth a try.

KING OF THE DEAD (1977) Gouache on illustration board - 24” x 14” I had the good fortune of working on Elric early in my career. The books by Michael Moorcock have proven to be enduring classics in fantasy. #art #booksky 🪐📚

Elric holds the slender black blade of Stormbringer as he turns in surprise toward a menacing skeletal figure. His gold cloak billows as he pivots, and the gold chain gripped in his other hand slackens as the ruby amulet bobs weightless with sudden motion. Arms flexed wide, the threatening figure grips a black trident. Beneath a horned helm, its skull is set in a deathly howl that exposes its fangs. With eyes flashing, a mass of figures skulk among smooth pillars in the background. Several of the ape-like humanoids flank Elric in the lower foreground.
