It's not really about ROI, it's about the powers that be. Studios want existing IP that's safe but still feels new. It's easier to sell execs on the concept of, say, a mixed race Spider-Man when the character already has an existing following and a story to adapt.

it currently sucks as an R&D division (no new characters, no risks, you get 10 issues to get a following aka what the fuck is a book market) and it sucks as standalone fare (any editorial decision outside of maybe 3-5 books soldering on through the bullshit).

Getting around to Alan Wake II now that Control Resonant is out. Game has terrible pacing and takes forever to get to the survival horror sections because it’s so obsessed with its own lore. We have never been so back.
