Why does the AI risk discourse have such a sharp apocalyptic edge? Leading EA theorist Toby Ord argued in his 2020 book, “The Precipice,” that threats to humanity’s continued existence deserve many times more attention than threats of mere disaster. This is explained as a utilitarian, mathematical function. If even 99 percent of people on the planet were wiped out, the species could probably recover — and fairly quickly in cosmic time — allowing for high levels of future human welfare. But if the number of survivors was below a small critical mass, it would be game over forever. So it’s literal doomsday that must be the moral focus.

Now you can opt out of having your posts shown to non-followers in the Discover feed. We know not everyone wants to go viral. Sometimes you're just posting for your followers. This is one of a few updates we're working on to give you more control over your experience and help you find your people.
Instructional image titled "Hide your posts from non-followers in Discover" accompanied by a screenshot of the "privacy and security" options from the Bluesky settings menu. "Ask apps to hide my posts from algorithmic recommendations" is toggled to the "on" state.

i dislike this beyond being factually incorrect, it is also missing the core problem with Big Tech Algorithms: it is a matter about who controls attention, not the algorithm itself /1
BlueSky today is really two things. There’s the BlueSky app, which is what a lot of people are familiar with. It’s a social network. We think it’s a better social network. It’s more human focused, doesn’t have ads. It doesn’t have algorithms. But more importantly, underneath BlueSky is an open protocol called AT Protocol. And BlueSky is only one of now over a thousand apps built on that protocol.

In fact, given the scale of the incident, Kimi Moonshot could very well take it out on Melvyn. Even if he thinks “it was just a light penetration test for content,” he used the model to facilitate an actual intrusion.
