Nine anti-ICE protesters were sentenced to 30 to 100 years in prison on Tuesday on terrorism charges. The maximum sentences prosecutors sought in the case stand in stark contrast to the treatment of January 6 rioters, says Sufia Khalid, who represented one of the defendants, Maricela Rueda.

LA deserves a mayor who will fiercely protect its residents and combat the dangers related to public safety in the city. That means no cooperation with anybody that violates the rights of Angelenos. No tracking or surveillance. No LAPD assisting ICE.
White background. Red text: La Defensa Voter Guide for the June 2026 Primary Election.

In black text: The Mayor is the city’s chief executive, with the power to veto City Council decisions, declare local emergencies, oversee city services, and propose the annual city budget. The Mayor appoints city department heads, including the Chief of Police, and sets the overall direction for how the city invests its resources and responds to its most urgent challenges.

Party Affiliation
Democrat

Ballot Designation
Pastor/Housing Advocate

Notable Contributions & Endorsements
Huang does not accept law enforcement, corporate, or PAC donations, and her campaign is entirely grassroots-funded.White background. Red Rae For LA logo. Background:
Rae Huang is an ordained Presbyterian minister and community organizer who has spent over 20 years building coalitions in Los Angeles. Through Housing NOW!, she led statewide campaigns that advanced tenant protections, including SB 567 and the nation-leading social housing study bill SB 555. She organized alongside workers through Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE) and helped launch the Healthy LA Coalition, which delivered pandemic relief to families left behind by federal programs. She supported the Baldwin Park campaign that replaced the city’s 20-year mayor and council members with candidates committed to defunding their police department in 2020. She also co-started Westside Vision, the coalition that identified and launched Faizah Malik’s race against Traci Park in CD-11. This is her first run for office.
White background. Red Rae For LA logo. Public Safety Platform:
La Defensa is proud to endorse Rae Huang for Mayor of Los Angeles. Huang takes an explicitly abolitionist and care-first approach to public safety, arguing that LAPD has “defunded all other aspects of city services.” She supports redirecting funds from LAPD to build a centralized Department of Community Safety, a citywide network of behavioral health stabilization centers, and an academy to train and hire people with lived experience of mental health and addiction challenges as outreach workers. She would pilot safe injection sites, expand unarmed crisis response teams throughout the city, and open neighborhood clinics.

What’s happening across Los Angeles right now is bigger than a campaign. It’s people choosing to believe that this city can belong to all of us again. ❤️‍🔥 Every day, volunteers are showing up after work, on weekends, and in between

Not all technology is good technology - especially when it’s used as a means of surveillance. We cannot allow LA to become a city that uses our personal data for corrupt reasons.
Background: image of the front lights of a car, near the license plate. In white text
Every time you drive in LA, Flock Safety cameras log your plate, your location, and your time. This data is getting fed into a network accessible to over 5,000 law enforcement agencies nationwide.

Highlighted in red: LAPD has been documented sharing that data with ICE through their Flock Safety LAPD contract.
Top half of the background: red. Bottom half: traffic picture in black and white. White text: What's happening: Flock Safety cameras across LA feed license plate data into a national network. AI contractors Palantir and Clearview AI cross-reference it with IRS records, Medicaid files, and facial recognition with no warrant required. This is done covertly and without consent.
top half of the background: a photograph of street light cameras. Bottom half of background: red. In bold whit text as a title: Is this legal? NO. white text under: This violates California’s values acts, LA’s Sanctuary City Ordinance, and LAPD’s internal policies. LAPD has already failed 10 of 19 compliance requirements on surveillance transparency per the City Controller's audit.

🚨LA is heating up at an alarming rate, but we don’t have to accept a hotter, harsher future!🌳 Rae’s plan invests in urban greening, climate-appropriate trees and shrubs, equitable shade in every neighborhood, and livable-wage green jobs that make our city healthier and more resilient.
Graphic with a pastel pink background and red text reading, “Heat is halting our city in its tracks.” A pink-tinted Los Angeles skyline sits beneath a lime green sunburst shape. Smaller text at the bottom says, “With El Niño on the horizon, temperatures will continue to rise.”Pastel pink graphic with a lime green speech-bubble shape containing red text: “Mayor Bass let the CityPlants contract expire without a real replacement.” Smaller text says City Hall has no plan to protect vulnerable communities from extreme heat. Three illustrated houses line the bottom.Graphic with red text reading, “Shade is critical public infrastructure. Making our city green is not just about beauty or luxury.” A large blue-toned tree fills the lower half beside a small illustrated house on a pink background.A tree canopy stretches across the top of a pink graphic. A white and red panel lists reasons for more shade: health, economic stimulus, reducing heat island effect, and community engagement.
