A single 3-hour workshop measurably increased support for tough climate policies, like taxing beef and banning short-haul flights. New @eui-sps.bsky.social research in PNAS. We spoke to authors Max Bradley & Nina Lopez-Uroz 🔗 loom.ly/QJIXMpQ

Tentative support for preconceptions 🤔 These authors 🧵 look at variations in mass attitudes towards the Russo-Ukrainian War using two types of survey data, finding that top-down models of #PublicOpinion may better explain variations of attitudes across a country buff.ly/j12fNJ5

Last week, after four incredible years, I defended my dissertation and was awarded a PhD in Political Science from the @eui-eu.bsky.social. It was a really special moment surrounded by family and friends, both old and new. Thank you to everyone who came to the defense and supported me along the way.

🚨I have a new paper out in PNAS with my co-authors, @maxbradley.bsky.social @renschazottes.bsky.social and @ninalopezuroz.bsky.social: "Educational policies can strengthen climate coalitions." A thread on what we found (and a great story about doing ambitious research without funding!) [1/9]

More generally though, I would like to thank my co-authors @susannagarside.bsky.social @ninalopezuroz.bsky.social and @renschazottes.bsky.social — you are all brilliant and I learnt so much from you on this project. Perhaps more importantly, I also had a huge amount of fun working together!

We have a new paper out in PNAS. Susanna’s thread outlines our findings. The big picture takeaway is that well-designed climate education (active, personally relevant, science-based) can complement fiscal and regulatory instruments by building public support for ambitious policy!

So this happened a little while ago. I'm very grateful to the judges from the @psaireland.bsky.social and to @kevcunningham.bsky.social for generous financial support of the prize. It was great to be in Galway a few weeks ago to collect the award at the PSAI annual conference. lnkd.in/dEsZBksB

@jeffcolgan.bsky.social and I have spent some time thinking about different approaches to teaching the politics of climate change. We advocate an approach that emphasizes the different 'theories of change' behind decarbonization.

We would appreciate any feedback on our work (see form below). We take a materialist orientation, but there are many other approaches, e.g., those which empahsize ideational factors. We want to have a broad discussion on how we teach climate politics. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

If you found our explainer video interesting, we've also written a working paper which lays out our arguments in more detail. It includes a comprehensive literature review that may help instructors build their syllabi. You can download the paper here: climate.watson.brown.edu/syllabus-bank

We provide a Decarbonization framework which we hope will help instructors to a) build a strong syllabus, b) map existing theories of change (e.g., Kyoto, Carbon Taxes, Green New Deal), and c) provide a practical teaching element where students can trace their own theories of change.

Would be interesting to compare both graphs with data from 2020. My hunch is that climate change fell as an ‘important issue’ and that may help explain the slump in Green support, as opposed to simply being punished for being in government
