Ye, I'm not familiar with Australian news but if you don't have a "police shooting filming bystanders" problem like we do in the US, I can understand why you wouldn't have interest in preserving discreet filming tools that would allow people to... not get shot at while documenting police brutality 😅

That makes sense. Police brutality and gun violence are both major problems here in the US but if Australia doesn't have those kinds of problems, then a temporary ban just to get consequence legislation in place makes more sense than doing nothing about it

I think a lot of folks don't realize how easy it'd be to catch a creep using these, and how hard it would be for cops to target documenting bystanders so long as these glasses remain legal

This is one of those things where if you catch someone recording strangers without their consent, you shame them immediately. Also, it'd kinda be hard not to spot someone staring at a woman and pressing a button on their glasses or phone repeatedly, or staring at someone and talking to themself.

Because police tend to target people who record police brutality, and "I thought they were holding a gun" has repeatedly worked for them in court (at least in the US) when they murder someone holding a phone to record, I feel like these shouldn't be *legally* banned so much as *socially* banned.
