It's by far the smallest thing here, but can a reality TV guy look down his nose at a comedian?

it would be lovely to get a win, but likely a draw!

It's been playing in a lighthouse in East London since 1999. It made me think about the Fairy Tale of New York, which has been playing in pubs, clubs, shopping malls and supermarkets since 1987, but just for a couple of months a year Jem Finer co-wrote that too, and I wonder which will last longer

An interesting radio doc about 'Long Player'. It's a piece of music composed by Jem Finer that will continue for 1,000 years, at which stage it will start again. [BBC - www.bbc.co.uk - The longest musical composition - Witness History ]( (www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...) )

I think clichés are there for a reason. They should not be messed with. Not in any form, shape, or way.

I know I'm weird about football...but I'm maybe not that weird. Each to their own, though

I jogged over this footbridge a couple of weeks ago. I’d like to think it wasn’t me jogging over it that did the damage
A warning sign indicates that the footbridge ahead is closed due to the risk of falling through.

I should also say that the doc also covers the fact that like silicon valley, the dead are built around privileged, allegedly charismatic, possibly extremely naive, white guys

mattypenny @mattypenny.bsky.social · 13/10/2026
...but as I think you're saying that would've got less clicks!

Kind of The chap is saying it's an accidentally genius marketing strategy as it turns out, and it mirrors both the early days of and the current internet A more accurate title would have been something like 'How the Dead prefigured aspects of internet culture and 2020s music industry'....

mattypenny @mattypenny.bsky.social · 13/10/2026
The old chap seems to be losing it...but he reminds me of someone senior in my first job who said that to stay technical in IT you really had to "make those electrons get up and dance" That was a slightly daft thing to say too, but it's stayed with me, nearly 40 years on

mattypenny @mattypenny.bsky.social · 13/10/2026
....which I imagine covers similar ground
100
mattypenny @mattypenny.bsky.social · 13/10/2026
I've listened to most of it now. The argument is that the Dead pioneered fandom, and user/fan involvement, and various internet-y ideas...largely by accident. It is quite interesting. Not really much about the music, or the Beatles A tech billionaire in the show wrote this book....

I admire the ambition….but I would take some convincing.
A BBC Radio 4 Archive on 4 program titled The Grateful Dead Are More Important Than The Beatles is scheduled for 10 October 2026, featuring a quote by novelist Ken Kesey about the band's unique musical approach.

I think I don't remember individual incidents so well from matches I was at. If I'd been at home I'd have immediately seen half a dozen replays. In the stadium I was probably too busy celebrating to look at the big screen, and really just registered we'd put one past West Ham

It’s the first day since around April that I’ve been able to go out whenever I want without sunscreen. Woohoo!
Salisbury is experiencing sunny intervals at 68°F with a UV index forecast ranging from 0 to 2, indicating that sun protection is generally not required unless near water, snow, or outside for a long time.
