Do you remember I mentioned The Haunting of Hill House?! Well, let’s just say I have only just got over the trauma. But it was an awesome theatre production and I totally recommend you go see it before it goes on tour. www.wiltshirecreative.co.uk/events/the-h...

After coming across a near diplomatic incident between Andy Burnham and Micheal Martin over tea, I have a Saturday morning debate we need to settle. Firstly Yorkshire Tea or Barry’s Tea? Barry’s for me! Next, milk in yer tea before or after pouring? After of course, (my nan would disagree)! 🫖🫖🫖

September is officially Spooky Season, so it seems fitting to go and see The Haunting of Hill House at Salisbury Playhouse in Wiltshire. It's running from the 12th Sept to 3rd Oct if you want to see it. A fright is good for the soul (but bad for the blood pressure)! 👻 #SalisburyPlayhouse

This is my new Irish Worry Stone, a gift from a friend, made of Connemara marble. Rub it and all your worries disappear. As you can see, it’s worked on Buddy pretty well (who is himself Irish)! ☘️ 🇮🇪 There’s also some wise advice with it I’m going to share with you…read it on the image.

There are more places to explore than I can ever have time for, just in Wiltshire alone. Another for the list is Puckwell, hidden in a coppice in East Knoyle. Puckwell is puca-wielle, the spring of the puca or goblin. It might also be the Devil's Well. So, what happened there?! The mind boggles! 👺

So, my understanding of this tech bro ‘AI warning’ is that it could ‘swarm and take over the internet’. They are worried because they’ll lose their power. To me that sounds great. Would it be so bad to unpick things and go back to life before the internet? Quite frankly, it was better in my view!

🧵👻One of the most enduring mysteries I have uncovered in my time of running Weird Wiltshire is the story of the Stone Ghost Girl of Eyeworth Pond. It all started after my other-half accidentally stumbled upon an old photo and sent it my way. From there it grew to be.. contd

🧵I started the evening looking into Black Dogs and have ended up reading all about the ghosts of Newgate Prison in London. It happens... rabbit holes and all. 🐰🕳️ This place, on which now stands The Old Bailey, is Deadman's Walk. Down this dark passageway you would go, from the prison to court.

This is a short, ghostly read for #phantomsfriday, one of my first ever blogs and the story of a curious incident involving my dad and a sugar bowl in Nottinghill Police Station, London, in the 70s. It's quick enough to read while you drink your morning cuppa! weird-wiltshire.co.uk/2020/11/22/n...

I found someone’s old 1960s scrapbook in the indoor market at Devizes. There were newspaper cuttings, invitations and greetings cards glued into it. Then there was this page! Not sure why it was in there but it made me smile! 🌈😊 🌈

I’ve never visited the engineering wonder that is Caen Hill Locks in Devizes before today. 29 locks in a row up the hill! It really is impressive and the Canal and River Trust are doing a great job of making this a lovely place where people boats and nature can live together. 🌳🌞🛶🦆

In these modern times we bow down at the Alter of Consumption, as we are all part of the Cult of Materialism. But let’s not forget these wise words: Thought of the day from philosopher Socrates: "He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have." 🌞🌻🌞

🧵👻Like buses, I post nothing for a month and then two blogs come along at once. Sitting with the summer theme, one is about a haunted holiday home in Chideock, Dorset. Fellow weirdo Amy and her family stayed there a few years back: weird-wiltshire.co.uk/2026/08/23/t... #ghosts #dorset

Just a gentle reminder to anyone in the UK right now…🌞 Please put out ground-based water trays for the birds and little critters. They are desperate for water right now. I had a wren and robin ‘queuing up’ to get in this one. Apologies for the poor image - I didn’t want to disturb the blackbird! 🐦‍⬛ 🐦

It looks like a lovely little country lane doesn't it? But, imagine it back in the 1950s on a chilly autumn evening, the gloaming setting in. You meet one of Wiltshire's Black Dogs, the guardians of the ancient barrows - harbingers of doom that inhabit this road. Suddenly, it's not so lovely! 👻

🧵Wherever I go I can always find a new ghost story… Today I’m sat here at Salisbury Train Station and I started chatting to one of the guards. Omg! 😦 This place has A LOT going on. 👻 One story is that of a fireman, one of the tragic deaths in the 1906 Salisbury Train Disaster which killed 28.

Am I the only one watching devastating wildfires break out across Europe while our governments green light data centres, more fossil fuels and more. Great swathes of materialistic humans building huge monster homes, buying jets and cars that just pollute. And none of them seem to care. ☹️

🧵One type of ghost Wiltshire doesn't seem to have (much to my disappointment) is a ghostly hand. 👋 While I will keep on searching, I have uncovered one in Dorset. A ghostly hand, that of trumpet-sergeant Blandford, has been seen bobbing around the churchyard of St Peters, Pimperne.

🧵Built by the US Army in 1942, the field hospital, located up on the downs about a mile out of Salisbury, was made from standard British and Nissen hut type designs. It dealt with many casualties following the D-Day landings on 6th June 1944, a total of 10 004.

What’s that on the tree-line? My first thought was, of course, it’s a ghost. It’s not! But, once again, this just proves real life is as weird as the world of ghosts. Why is this strange figure in hunting gear sat on a saddle looking across the field? Creepy!

This is Mrs Ridout leading 'The Coombe Express', painted in 1878, by Frank Brooks. Mrs Ridout would convey goods from Coombe Bissett to The Shoulder of Mutton Inn, Salisbury. On the way home she would stop at The Swan for a final refreshment, sharing her ale with her donkeys using the same jug! 🫏🍺😊

🧵It's Oak Apple Day in Great Wishford in Wiltshire! Held on the 29th of May, Oak Apple Day is a celebration to mark the restoration of the Stuart Monarchy in 1660. It involves making a noise with pots and pans at dawn, taking boughs of oak from Grovely Woods and proceeding to Salisbury Cathedral.

Marlborough Mound is 19 m high, built in 2300BC. It's the 2nd biggest mound in Britain. Often referred to as Silbury Hill's little sister and is located within the grounds of Marlborough College. Legend has it, this was the final resting place of Merlin, and was once called Maerla’s Barrow. 🧙‍♀️

🧵The curse that kept a church door unlocked for over a century… In 1801, an innocent Romani man, Joshua Scamp was hanged for a crime he didn't commit; framed by his own son-in-law. When the local clergy later desecrated his grave, the furious Gypsy Queen laid her curses. Every single one came true.
