Why the commission in the NHL that sets rules doesn’t require players to have a cage or plastic shield over their face blows my mind. No excuse IMO. I played for years when I way younger and took pucks to the face. This can happen in any hockey game…

Smaller and locally runnable models are also easier to improve on in a smaller GPU cluster setting (AFAIK), so that feels like a good goal for the dev community in general, or at least for the GPU/compute poor. Which I think is most people on earth.

Yeah I think Mr. Coxon makes a reasonable argument. Is humanity’s path dependence too strong to slow the creation of super intelligent AI? I am not sure; it feels like AI development will continue as long as humans do. Will ppl value safety over money? Hopefully. scholar.google.com/citations?us...

The bus driver this morning was feeling himself! He had a little rock paper scissors contest with a dude in need of a bus ride. The rider lost and now owes the bus driver a Queen cover of “we are the champions.” That bus driver brought a big smile to my face.

I appreciate that Wharton has been consistently approaching AI and its use from a pedagogical perspective. I don’t know the history of the school, but the professors (Ethan Mollick as a specific example) have been creating content to learn from/with AI for yrs gail.wharton.upenn.edu/gen-ai-studi...

I am not sure if you’ve done this yet, but have you thought to use Fable/Sol to analyze all past pelican SVGs and see what objects have been included (or not) in the SVG, and compare the objects and their counts? The reason I say this is because I notice that some of the models like to add a fish 🐟

It struck me a week ago or so that these models are very powerful and their training and control is quite concentrated. It makes sense why every nation is rushing to build their own. And it also makes me question who the most powerful entities are within a nations boundaries.

Black text on a white page that reads as follows:

In January, our administration inherited a $12 billion budget deficit — a fiscal crisis greater than the Great Recession.

Today I am proud to announce that our balanced budget has cleared the final step and passed the New York City Council.

We balanced the budget by taxing the rich and making government more efficient. We did not balance this budget on the backs of working people, and we never will.

Every year that follows will build on these principles: Honest budgeting. Fiscal discipline. Transparent government. And an unwavering belief that working people deserve a government that delivers for them every day.

I think don't reinvent the wheel has never been a more important rule-of-thumb. That said, there has been WAY more things invented than the wheel since the beginning of time. And it seems like it'd be pretty hard to know even a small percent of that, even b4 considering what could possibly be made.
