Sorry, I'll explain. We currently react to inflation by reducing the disposable income of spenders so that demand falls and unemployment goes up. We use a bufferstock of unemployed people to keep workers desperate, so wages are suppressed and we don't get a feedback loop (wage 🔄 prices) [🧵 1/n]

Health targets. My #cartoon today #Health #NZpol
Cartoon. Title: “Health Targets” Simeon Brown pushing a patient in a wheelchair, in an Emergency Department. He’s wheeling her towards a cupboard that is stuffed full of people, and saying, “Technically, this isn’t the ED. Our targets are working!”

Latest NZ balance sheet data is out. Always a pleasure. We can start with our apparently perilously indebted government. Errrm, see those blue bars? They're higher than the yellow line, right? Yep, the private sector is in net debt to the Govt. Daft. [🧵1/n]

For sure, I'm not sure if the metaphor of a household ultimately holds up but it's a better understanding of how govt works than the picture of a business. We're all using toiletpaper so let's split the cost and save

The reason it's not functioning currently is because it's not a good business case. That's exactly why it should be a public service. It's useful and doesn't make a profit

I think passenger is the marketing win bc people can imagine participating in it and having a direct experience of living it, which is a lot more engaging than the theoretical of wherever stuff comes from which is invisible by design. I agree with your point though

I think sharing what you plan to do is part of earning voters trust?? I guess if someone doesn't win the electorate that might change plans but I think having a plan and being transparent is pretty good actually

The ultra-wealthy keep trying to pit the rest of us against each other with scare tactics ("communists!" "men in the ladies room!!" "brown people!!!" "drag queens!!!!") to keep us from noticing that our real problem is THEM. They want us to fight *any* war—except a class war. Happy Labor Day.

thank you The New York Post for what may be the funniest image of all time
a picture from the NY Post titled "	today’s leftists are possessed by the spirit of France’s 18th-century guillotine-loving revolutionaries" (way too long) that shows Mamdani (the specter haunting Europe) smiling in the sky as a bunch of French people goof around

Willem de Kooning, 1976
An abstract painting in oil paint made up of fluid brushstrokes. It is a balance of neutral grey, tan, white and black supporting a dynamic patch of yellow and red, further supported by small but powerful patches of blue and red. The painting is pictured framed by a thin minimalist frame on a white wall and a little wooden floor is visible at the bottom of the picture
