It’s wild that no one in the media asks the White House for any evidence that Iran was anywhere near producing nuclear weapons and makes it major a story when they refuse. Instead Trump just repeatedly uses this to justify the war and the economic hardships it’s caused without question.

Yes, and Smith is an experienced prosecutor himself and knows how to set a trap for a witness, so you can see him thinking to himself, “Is this guy just stupid, or is this some kind of trap?”

Their definition of “open” is that the U.S. can escort limited groups of vessels out at great expense. That is very different from what “open” meant before they started this war.

The GOP is an opposition party even when it's in power, the idea that they are the perpetual underdog is central to their internal mythology and can't be disturbed by facts or the results of elections. It's also why they're bad at, you know, governing.

What gets me is the lack of critical thinking about how all this is supposed to work if we cognitively offload in the way he's describing. How will engineers engage in systems thinking if they don't understand the basics? How can people fruitfully engage with AI if they don't know anything?

Win for Aristotelian tripartite soul theory?
The new research finding shows that the human brain consists of two ancient nervous systems cleverly packaged together — a more primitive part that regulates our hearts’ beating, our breathing and other functions, and another that makes us distinctly human, capable of poetry, mathematics and wondering about our own origins.

Interestingly this state senate district already went 57-43 for Rehmet in a special election runoff this past January. In the last general election for the senate spot in 2022, the Republican won 60-40. Trump won the district 58-41 in 2024.
