Bad AI art has rapidly taken over the food advertising at the Eastern Idaho State Fair, but at least a few places still know how it’s done.

Late summer vacations are perfect but also dangerous for someone like me, who loves to cultivate a new interest. Seriously considering how long it might take me to visit every publicly accessible Frank Lloyd Wright building in America.

The daily book club/marketing scam emails mostly depress me, with their expert tailoring to creative/academic insecurities, but this line truly made me laugh.

For a semester-long, interdisciplinary faculty seminar, I had to make a zine illustrating some aspect of my current research. Naturally, I made a comic, despite my lack of talent in that medium. For posterity, here’s a page in progress.
Small zine page, featuring a comics panel in which a man (me) is reading a newspaper and listening to an old Bakelite radio. The caption reads “instead, you need a full range of creative expression to understand what culture looked like in an increasingly distant past.”

Absolutely thrilled with the cover @univnebpress.bsky.social has designed for my book, The New Old Style: Anachronism in Contemporary Comics (coming August ‘26)! And special thanks to the wonderful and generous Cole Closser for allowing me to use their art.
Cover of a book titled The New Old Style: Anachronism in Contemporary Comics, by Matthew Levay. The cover features three vertically-arranged panels. The middle features the book’s title against a black background, while the top and bottom feature colorful drawings of a boy with white circles for eyes, done in a style clearly reminiscent of 1920s and 1930s-era newspaper comics and designed to appear as if they are printed on old newsprint.
