Believe it or not, til last night, I'd never seen BLACK CHRISTMAS (1974). But with its star Olivia Hussey passing, it was time. And wow does it hold up! The killer's psychopathy is genuinely disturbing, and the performances and tone were surprisingly grounded. Film was *way* ahead of its time! 1/2

Oddly, the 1980 film NINE TO FIVE came up 3 times last week, so I watched it. Good film—highlights workplace sexism/harassment with humor, but looking back, it’s wild how serious abuses—assault, exploitation, etc—were played for laughs. A reminder of how far we’ve come and still need to go.

Just watched the Corey Feldman film THE BIRTHDAY (2004) and wow is it fucking bonkers. Definite Terry Gilliam vibes — an oddball odyssey, but with a much smaller budget. You’ve gotta be willing to go with it, but in the end, it’s worth it. Glad it was finally released. Rent it on Amazon Prime.

Wow. Just walked out of CONCLAVE. Loved it. Edward Berger is a genius filmmaker. Wonderful performances from the entire cast. But that got me thinking—what a joy it must’ve been to be on set w Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Isabella Rossellini, and the rest of that stacked cast. Unreal.

“Tender Mercies” is a masterpiece. Hadn’t watched it in quite a while and I somehow forgot how brilliant and profound it is. Robert Duvall oozes charisma, and man-oh-man can he sing. Near the end, when he says “I don’t trust happiness. I never did, I never will,” 💔

Gooooooddaaaaaaamn I forgot how good THE WRESTLER is. Not sure anyone has ever been more perfectly cast than Mickey Rourke as Randy “The Ram.” And Evan Rachel Wood’s performance is so raw and powerful. Such a heartbreaking story. When Aronofsky nails it, he really nails it.
