I read Daniel Nayeri's THIS IS A DOOR with my daughter (8) over three nights and we had the best time! It's a hilarious graphic-novel-in-text - Daniel has conjured up the pictures out of plain old words. Think CHICKA-CHICKA-BOOM-BOOM meets THE HERO WITH A THOUSAND FACES and you’ll see what I mean...

NAVIGATING NIGHT is a vivid , important book for readers aged 4-8 by Julie Leung, based on her memories of her childhood; Angie Kang’s atmospheric illustrations of the rain-soaked-but-colourful night capture the narrator’s emotional world in all its cosiness and contradictions. #kirkusprize #booksky

After a summer in which Europe was literally on fire, maybe we've reached a 'tipping point' in the public understanding of climate change: Every £1 of oil we drill and burn costs us more than £4 in the damage caused by heatwaves, storms, forest fires, floods, crop failures, rising food prices...

Here are the first 4 books I've read in Swedish: the Bästa series by Ellen Karlsson & Karin Cyrén. It's a gentle, wise and profound take on the resilience of children in a capricious adult world - something that’s been on my mind a lot in recent weeks (I cried twice in book 4).
The cover of Bästa Friends Forever (Best Friends Forever) by Ellen Karlsson & Karin Cyrén. The covers of:

Kay (8): Can't we take the train from Sweden to England instead of flying? Me: Um. Sort of. But it takes longer and it's very expensive. Kay: It'll be a lot more expensive to get a new planet. Me: Um. Kay: I don't actually think there is another one you can buy.

More than 100 UK datacentres plan to burn gas to generate electricity
Requests for gas connections by operators amount to more than 15 terawatt hours per year, endangering climate targets More than 100 new datacentres in the UK plan to burn gas to generate electricity, some potentially doing so permanently. British officials say this is an inevitable consequence of a years-long wait to connect to the National Grid, and raises an “interesting question” about the UK’s climate targets. Continue reading...

AI is "just a tool" but also "every child on the planet must be forced to learn to prompt (train) the machines and edit its output and that is the future of education" do not make sense. If it is "just a tool," we do not have to repurpose the entire architecture, goals, of education.

‘Suicidal’ model of capitalism leading to war and fascism, climate summit told
Colombia president Gustavo Petro tells 57-country talks on a green energy transition that fossil fuel interests could destroy humanity The world is threatened by a “suicidal” model of capitalism that is leading to war, fascism and the potential extinction of humanity, Colombia’s president has said, as he convened 57 governments to address the climate crisis. Gustavo Petro blamed fossil fuel interests for taking ever more desperate measures to prevent a transition to green energy. “There is inertia in the power and the economy of this archaic form of energy – fossil fuels – that lead to death. Undoubtedly, that form of capital can commit suicide, taking with it humanity and [other] life,” he said. “The question that needs to be asked is whether capitalism can truly adapt to a non-fossil energy model.” Continue reading...
