This is a cargo bike, it probably ran out of battery for the e-assist or something.

I mean I’ll take a cargo bike over a truck.

I’ve thought since first seeing it that this logo would make great t-shirts for those of us recovering from alcoholism.

That scene has the craziest drama. A while back there was a whole thing with multiple people faking their own deaths.

cx is generally a good crowd too

Yeah it was definitely a suppressed immune system thing, it was just surprising how much stress-related factors affected that. This was shortly after my first kid was born, I had been barely sleeping for months with my anxiety dial turned up to 11.

Yeah the primary patent expires in 2029.

I got it about a year before the vaccine came out, and then got shingles in my early 30’s (turns out stress can trigger it.) Unpleasant experiences both. Really glad my kids won’t have to go through that.

I went to a New Orleans-themed bar in Paris and it was squarely in the uncanny valley. bsky.app/profile/matt...

Somewhat ironically, my Ford Maverick pickup is one of the more car-like vehicles on the market in terms of driving experience.

I guess there are still some people who won’t buy a “foreign” car, even if it’s a Camry built in Kentucky?

Do I need a timber framing saw? No. Do I want one? Yes, of course.

Like if you took a circular saw and replaced the blade with a chainsaw.

I live in the neighborhood, my kids have learned a lot of colorful language from me as we pass by those protestors on the way to school.

Right, it gives you options. I work in the trades now and enjoy it a lot more than any other job I’ve had, but I was also a software engineer for a decade before this and made a deliberate decision.

“Do the next right thing”, as they say in AA (and, uh, Frozen 2). A lot of the time the best amends are to just do better next time. Also there’s a lot of middle ground between perfect and worthless, tempting though it is to think only in extremes.

Being an imperfect addition machine that is still batting far above average is honestly a far more interesting result. Like, the only entities we're aware of that can do big math kinda badly are humans, LLMs, and the Pentium P5 800

I like your work in general but any time spreads come up it’s incredibly off-putting and I wish you wouldn’t do it. It’s a cheap shortcut, there are much better ways to talk about matchups.

000

Because it looks cool. Like, I guarantee that’s the actual reason and they’ve put no thought into it beyond that. It’s like the battleship obsession.

000

Should couple it with crackdowns on scam junk mail that’s designed to look like it’s coming from the government.

The Natalie Harp cameo took me out

This is what online dating used to look like

1.) Mail a burned DVD copy of a documentary about trebuchets to people you’ve never met

I ran into my old friend at a high school reunion and told him that this one random thing he did was the precipitating event for basically everything that happened in my life after that point, it’s funny how contingent some things are.

050

More seriously, the closest thing to a general principle I can think of is to look for communities that aren’t too big and where you’re not limited to participating passively or asymmetrically .

“Obsessively comment on niche political blogs which you find by following rabbit holes after your high school friend Paco gives you a copy of The American Prospect magazine in AP Government class.” (This may not generalize.)

Oh god don’t get me started on old-school HVAC guys and heat pumps, yeah I have no idea what’s going on in that space. I’m more talking about trades where material costs are a lower % of the total and it’s mostly labor.

250

Having recently made a career switch to the trades myself, I will say that pricing for this stuff makes a lot more sense now that I’m actually putting together quotes. For the most part it’s just a lot more labor hours than you’d intuitively think.

And carbon monoxide detectors, particularly if you have combustion appliances. A couple of years ago the flue for our boiler got blocked and the house started filling up with CO in the middle of the night, only woke up because of the alarm. Fire dept came and had to ventilate the whole house.

041

I don’t think you have to be comfortable with that, a big part of it to me is learning to tolerate discomfort. I’m admittedly coming at this from an AA perspective, which is infused with this stuff, but this is basically the serenity prayer. It’s not passive acceptance of the status quo.

160

I would say it’s appropriate for problems that are broadly in the “look inward rather than outward“ class. Something like this is a large component of a lot of substance abuse recovery programs, for example.

The one that always gets me is that Atlanta is farther west than Detroit.

I am 17 years old and listening to WHFS on my way to school. Later today, my friend David will give me my first ever Red Bull in AP Biology class.

That does make me feel better about the airlifts I’ve seen at amateur bike races in Maryland, those were always state police. I always worried they were going to get stuck with a crazy bill.

U of MD Med Center. Medicare covered it so we didn’t have to pay out of pocket (it was a legit seconds-matter emergency), and it saved her life, so I’m not salty about it. But it was very surprising.
