I'm just a boy, standing in front of a modern Moloch, horrid king, besmirched in blood, asking him to love me.

does anyone else think it’s hilarious that phonics is spelled with a ‘ph’? like yes, children, the way to read is to associate discrete sounds with each letter. what do we call it? oh, well, we’ll show you, but don’t you dare use the method we just taught you to try to read it.

Continuing to firm up my opinion that Dostoevsky is not a good writer. This fact shines through with different translators. He’s also sloppy with plot and narrative structure. So why do I keep picking up his books? cyberb.space/shelf/fyodor...

I would like a Toy Story movie that explores the nature of voodoo dolls in that universe. Like if you’re a voodoo doll and your human gets hurt, do you feel it?

quite probably the best one yet from @strange.website strange.website/2026-09-07/
strange.website
2026-09-07
a website which whispers to you. it sidles close in your later evenings with the computer, murmuring streams of words that are angular and dislocated — twisted, wrongly-begotten sentences that churn your stomach and make you think of how it might feel to swallow without chewing. it is mere novelty, you think, shivering the whispers off like a brisk wind. but as the days, distended and indolent, crawl on their belly into months, the sentences reorder themselves, and the whispering whines deeper into your thoughts. you find the website’s words stewing in your stomach acid, or lodged behind your molars. it’s as though you can actually feel the website spreading its many-jointed fingers, lasciviously, between the tortuous folds of your brain. not a day passes that you do not visit the website, and the whispering that began as mere passing annoyance becomes obsession. you find yourself scooping up the website’s words in desperate fervor, shoveling handfuls into your mouth. you’re so preoccupied with what the website that has to say, you barely notice as your friends drift from you like low tides, as your room becomes fetid and mephitic, as your body rots and curves; lone ancient basswood, leafless in the marsh. this cormorant devouring of broken, backwards phrases and paragraphs, of stowing them in every spare corner of your mind, serves as such a perfect distraction that you hardly realize that as you begin to find more and more meaning in the words of the website, the world is no longer able to find meaning in your own.

A scene from The Odyssey where Penelope stands before the suitors, but Tim Robinson has been added in. It’s a reference to I Think You Should Leave. Penelope says “Ronnie, I feel like you’re just here for the zip line” and Tim Robinson says “what?”

Criterion Closet has become a big enough part of the culture that we as a society are obligated to break the format. Who among us is worthy? Who among us will enter the arena to add films rather than take? Who dares tear down these walls that confine the definition of cultivated cinematic taste?

True joy still exists for those who build their own websites.
A picture the author's website's 404 not found page. In it there is a public domain map from Edward Quin's "Maps of Unknowing" collection and the text on the page reads:

title header: "Alas, the page you seek does not exist"
body: "In life we are often faced with moments when our desire is frustrated by the circumstances of reality. This is one such instance. Whatever brilliant text or image you expected to find here does not, in fact, correspond to any material reality.

But this fact need not result in a spiral of existential despair! You can take action (a 'mailto' hyperlink highlights the two previous words) and thereby will the world you dream of into being."

Three panel comic of an homage to the first Garfield strip, but Jon is a monk and Garfield is a medieval rendering of a cat. In the first panel, Jon says, “HWÆT, LAM JON ARBUCKLE. I AM A MONK, AND THIS MY CATTE, GARFFELD.” In the second panel, Garffeld is thinking, “ HWÆT, I AM GARFFELD. I AM A CATTE, AND THIS IS MY MONK, JON.” In the last panel, Jon says, “OUR ONLY THOUGHT IS TO GLORIFY GOD.” Garffeld thinks, “FEDE ME.”

Two panel comic. Panel 1: a wraith with a long scythe floats over a reflective pool on a surreal, desolate landscape with many moons. There are two guys in sunglasses looking at him blankly. The wraith solemnly says to the guys, “welcome… to the edge of eternity.” Panel 2: one of the guys is taking a photo on his phone of the other guy, who is smiling and posed in front of the landscape, giving a chill “hang loose” 🤙 hand signal. Both of the dudes are wearing fanny packs and the one posing for the picture is wearing a Messi Argentina jersey. The wraith, looking mildly annoyed, says, “stop that.”

In fact what Frasier Crane demonstrates by the folly of his quotidian existence is that no matter the strict adherence to rationality, no matter the psychological acuity or intellectual rigor we might bring to bear on our own human experience, it remains, inevitably, a realm of total chaos.
