Hours after ICE became the highest federal law enforcement agency in America history (and likely in world history), the Supreme Court lifts the last obstacle to ICE deporting people to any random country around the world, even in conflict zones or where migrants are enslaved.

🚨 ICE disappeared a woman on Wednesday night. She was grabbed by men in plainclothes and taken to an unidentified location. ICE is refusing to say where she is being held. It’s 72 hours later and not even a dedicated team of lawyers can find her. This is WRONG. We can’t let this be the new norm.

NEW: DHS's claim that TPS for Haiti was terminated because DHS thinks Haiti is now "safe for Haitian citizens to return to" is FALSE. According to the termination published in the Federal Register, the ONLY explanation Noem gave is that letting Haitians have TPS was "not in the national interest."
Based on her review, the Secretary has determined that termination of TPS for Haiti is required because it is contrary to the national interest to permit Haitian nationals (or aliens having no nationality who last habitually resided in Haiti) to remain temporarily in the United States.

NEW: The Trump admin finalized an emergency regulation, which goes into effect tomorrow, authorizing DHS to impose civil monetary penalties for immigration law violations with far less due process. The rule could lead to DHS imposing exorbitant fines on millions of people — fines they can't afford.

Imposition and Collection of Civil Penalties for Certain Immigration-Related Violations
AGENCIES: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (“ICE”), Department of Homeland
Security (“DHS”); Executive Office for Immigration Review (“EOIR”), Department of Justice
(“DOJ”).
ACTION: Interim final rule; request for comment.
SUMMARY: This interim final rule (“IFR”) amends existing DHS and DOJ regulations. It
provides exclusive DHS procedures for the issuance of civil monetary penalties under the
Immigration and Nationality Act for aliens who fail to depart voluntarily during the voluntary
departure period, willfully fail or refuse to depart after a final removal order and certain other
proscribed activities, or are apprehended while improperly entering or attempting to enter the

Justice Sotomayor's dissent in Skrmetti (which she's now reading from the bench) is deeply pained, accusing her colleagues of abandoning "transgender children and their families to political whims" and badly damaging "bedrock" principles of equal protection. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...
Tennessee’s law expressly classifies on the basis of sex
and transgender status, so the Constitution and settled
precedent require the Court to subject it to intermediate
scrutiny. The majority contorts logic and precedent to say
otherwise, inexplicably declaring it must uphold Tennessee’s categorical ban on lifesaving medical treatment so
long as “‘any reasonably conceivable state of facts’” might
justify it. Ante, at 21. Thus, the majority subjects a law
that plainly discriminates on the basis of sex to mere rational-basis review. By retreating from meaningful judicial
review exactly where it matters most, the Court abandons
transgender children and their families to political whims.
In sadness, I dissent.

🚨THIS STORY IS INSANE. The Trump administration shipped a guy to be imprisoned in El Salvador without trial, in conditions worse than we treat even convicted serial killers, because he was in a picture standing next to someone with tattoos. LITERALLY NO OTHER EVIDENCE.
On New Year’s Eve, a group of migrants crossed the Rio Grande from Mexico into Maverick County and surrendered to Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and National Guard soldiers patrolling the border. Among them was Pedro Luis Salazar-Cuervo, a 28-year-old from Venezuela with no known criminal record, who was accused by state police of being in the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang because they found a photo of him on a phone posing with another man with tattoos, also accused of being a gang member, according to his lawyers. By mid-March, he had been deported by federal immigration authorities to a maximum security prison in El Salvador, along with more than 230 others that President Donald Trump called “the worst of the worst.”

ICE has been taking the position nationwide that its field offices, and the detention cells therein, are not facilities "operated by or for [DHS] used to detain or otherwise house aliens," on the argument that the facilities are "processing areas" and therefore not covered detention facilities.

One of the people ICE re-arrested in NYC on Wednesday was a man who was previously separated from his wife and daughter in 2023. They'd been diligently following every rule and restriction the government placed on them. None of that mattered; ICE re-arrested him anyway, again separating the family.
Colombian migrant father reunites with family after separation, detention at Texas-Mexico border
“I didn’t want to leave, and I cried like never before,” the dad told ABC News.

By Penelope Lopez ,Cydney Tucker and Allie Weintraub
September 13, 2023, 8:09 AM ET

A Colombian migrant father reunited with his partner and 10-year-old daughter in Los Angeles after being apart for more than two weeks following their separation by U.S. border authorities in Texas.

The couple, Ambar and Jaen, made the treacherous journey to seek asylum in the United States with their daughter, Aranza. The couple asked ABC News not to use their last names because of safety concerns. Like many migrant families, they left everything behind in their home countries, fleeing what they say were unsafe conditions – all for a better future for their little girl.2:41 p.m.: Four men are walked out in handcuffs by masked agents. One is Jaen, Ambar’s husband. Her 12-year-old daughter screams and runs after him.

Ambar wails in agony and collapses onto the sidewalk.

As the SUVs pull away Ambar leans over a nearby fence sobbing, “My love, my love,” she murmurs over and over again.

NEW: Reporting from @thecity.nyc shows how ICE's outrageous new operation to re-arrest people attending check-ins as part of compliance with their release is undermining the rule of law. One woman whose daughter-in-law was re-arrested says she's now too afraid to attend her court hearing.
12:11 p.m.: A Venezuelan woman named Rosmely says she’s been waiting outside all morning for her daughter-in-law.

“This makes me so nervous,” she says in Spanish. “This is so strange to me,” she said, she hadn’t heard from her daughter in law in around 40 minutes. “She hasn’t called me again, and here I am outside.”

...

1:47 p.m.: Four women in handcuffs are marched out of the office by masked agents. Rosmely breaks down in tears.

Her daughter-in-law is being taken away.

Colin also starts sobbing. His friend, the home health aid, is also handcuffed. He bends over and then staggers off gasping for breath.

Around the corner Rosmely collapses onto a curb, “This is horrible here,” she says in Spanish, “How can I tell my son?” “That girl is such so tranquil. She has no criminal record, she barely goes out,” she says in shock.

Rosmely says she has a court date in the coming weeks but she’s planning to skip it after what happened. “No one should come here,” she says.

🚨NEW: @cbsnews.com reports ICE is arresting people who can't even legally be deported and holding them without enough food or water in a federal building BASEMENT in Los Angeles. Families dutifully attending check-ins with ICE are being arrested and held for days, forced to sleep on the floor.
One attorney, Lizbeth Mateo, said ICE officials slated several of her clients for check-ins at the Edward R. Roybal Federal Building in downtown L.A. but when they showed up on Tuesday, they were detained and immediately escorted to the basement.

Mateo said a couple and their two children, one of whom is a U.S. citizen, spent the night in a room with no beds and limited access to food and water. Mateo said the father had previously been issued a stay of removal, barring him from deportation but he and his family were detained anyway. His wife was released Wednesday evening along with their children since she needed medical attention due to a high-risk pregnancy. He was still being detained early Friday, Mateo said.

11: 45 a.m.: Attorney Dave Wilkins is pacing around outside the building. Earlier in the day he accompanied a client into the basement office but was soon kicked out by a site supervisor.

“I haven’t been able to figure out physically where my client is or what they plan to do with my client,” he says, adding that he hadn’t heard from her in about two hours.

NEW: In Djibouti, conditions are brutal for both detainees and ICE officers, ICE tells Judge Murphy. Impossible to read this without thinking the govt should just bring the detainees back to the US for due process! storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
Within 72 hours of landing in Djibouti, the officers and detainees began to feel ill. The
medical staff did not have immediate access to medication necessary to treat their symptoms.
Our flight nurse has since been able to obtain some but not all of what is necessary for the proper
care and safety of the both the officers and the detainees. It is unknown how long the medical
supply will last.
ICE officers continue to feel ill with symptoms such as coughing, difficulty breathing,
fever, and achy joints. These symptoms align with bacterial upper respiratory infection, but ICE officers are unable to obtain proper testing for a diagnosis. Medical staff have provided officers with Augmentin, Azithromycin, Doxycycline, Prednisone, Albuterol Inhaler, Zyrtec, Tylenol, Motrin, Benadryl, Mucinex, Sudafed, nasal spray, and eye drops to help manage the symptoms.
16. Upon arrival in Djibouti, officers were warned by U.S. Department of Defense officials of imminent danger of rocket attacks from terrorist groups in Yemen. The ICE officers lack body
armor or other gear that would be appropriate in the case of an attack.
