My god. Essential, horrifying reporting here.
A few days after the incident in which Amalia lost consciousness, Marcano brought her back to the clinic at Dilley. A staffer measured Amalia’s blood-oxygen saturation—which, in a healthy individual, is between ninety-five and a hundred per cent—and found that it was in the low fifties. “Such a low amount of oxygen going to the brain can, if it’s long enough, kill off parts of the brain—it’s really, really high-stakes,” Prantik Saha, a pediatrician who reviewed Amalia’s medical records, told me. “It’s shocking that this level of callousness and omission of care could occur.” Amalia was taken to a local hospital, where it became clear that she needed care beyond what the facility could provide. She was transferred to a larger hospital in San Antonio, where she was given five diagnoses: Covid-19, RSV, bronchitis, pneumonia, and an ear infection. She received supplemental oxygen and intensive care.

If you had told me the East was going to be a five team race for one spot with three games to go, as a Sarbes fan, I might have been excited.

it's not just that Bills fans were right about Josh Allen's potential while idiots like me were wrong, you could argue the way Bills fans believed so aggressively in Josh Allen even when he was playing terribly bought him time to develop. I urge Bills fans to take even more victory laps on this

There’s a paradox of AI in that it hurts the original creators the most, and yet they are crucial to actually create the content that the AI requires to continually improve. I don’t see a way out without companies like Open AI paying the content creators a la Spotify.

I did the same water slide ten times in a row (running up the stairs with the double tube) with one kid and then the other one rode me around in the ocean like a donkey for a half hour. They’re the best personal trainers I’ve ever had but we may have different criteria for a workout

I got the best teaching evals of my career for a large course last semester— along with three teaching awards— after rebuilding my intro class around in-class handwritten essays. I simply do not believe that this is unsolvable or that students don't care about actually learning to do their work.

Some fans will need to face the reality that McDavid is actually a cool dude. He and Stamkos support LGBTQIA+ rights.
McDavid: "I certainly can’t speak for every organization,” said McDavid, who won the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP. “I know in Edmonton, we were one of the first teams to use the Pride tape. “We strongly feel hockey is for everybody, and that includes the Pride nights.”

Stamkos: “It was 98 percent or 99 percent of other players that wore the jersey and enjoyed wearing it and were proud wearing it, whatever jersey it was, whether it was the Pride, the military night, the cancer nights. The story shouldn’t be about the guy that didn’t wear it, the one guy or the two guys. I understand that’s what gets the clicks and that’s what gets the views, but the word ‘distraction’ gets thrown around. I don’t think it had to have been a distraction. It could have been a non-issue while focusing on the good that was coming out of those nights.”

I think the conversation is (and should be) different in child education vs workplace upskilling and these are the right conversations. Kids still (I hope?) learn long division before they get to use a calculator. This isn’t that dissimilar in each individual problem, but at a much different scale.

GREAT point on thuney’s move denting the run game as well! I’m assuming it’s a trade-off the chiefs still make, but it feels like the bills have always wanted to not worry about the run game. They let CEH run like saquon once

Have other university ITs become just as overzealous or are we blessed with a particularly impossible setup? in recent years, under the disguise of cybersecurity, we have gradually lost all authority over our work computers (e.g., what software to access) & now everything is subject to bureaucracy.
