Most of the outrage is, frankly, feigned or comes from camps already opposed to Peltola. One said they wouldn't vote for Peltola even if she were a Republican, which is kinda telling. To a lot of Republicans, just being a Democrat is vulgar.

Digging through the comments on social media this morning, I'm struggling to find anyone who sees the NYT story on Peltola as particularly a big deal. After all, she was elected to the office of a guy who once held a knife to Boehner's throat.

Oh, and it’s a former staffer who took that position: “Mr. Fick said there were times when Ms. Peltola “raised her voice” at her staff. He suggested … that people not used to working in blue-collar environments like a commercial fishing boat might be overstating the incidents.”

Frankly kinda wild to hear Treg Taylor, who got on the ballot despite knowingly violating Alaska financial disclosure laws, complaining that no one trusts Alaska’s elections system because of “all the games being played.” Like, cmon. #akgov #akelect

The University of Alaska Anchorage still has no booking from President Trump, a university official said today. Trump said last week that he would come to Alaska and campaign for Sen. Dan Sullivan before the general election. Trump used UAA for a 2022 campaign rally. #akleg

The argument seems to be that the Department of Law — which Treg led until last year — found a few other financial disclosures from candidates that MAY not be accurate. So they've decided, therefore, that you can't enforce the rules on Treg, who DEFINITELY is ignoring the law. Bro...

Perhaps an all-time Friday news dump: GOP former Attorney General Treg "I Don't Have to Fill Out My Financial Disclosures" Taylor is BACK IN THE RACE for governor! At 10:15, Lt. Gov. Dahlstrom (R) says the Department of Law's "independent" review says she has to let Treg off the hook. #akelect
Lieutenant Governor Dahlstrom Will Certify Nominations of Treg Taylor and Jose Tagle

September 4, 2026

Today Lt. Gov. Nancy Dahlstrom announced that the Division of Elections will certify Treg Taylor’s nomination for Governor and Jose Tagle’s nomination for State Representative for District 22.

On August 31, the Lieutenant Governor announced that she would not certify those nominations after the Alaska Public Offices Commission recommended against certification under 2 AAC 50.850(h). The Department of Law has since provided this office with an initial, independent review of candidates’ public official financial disclosure statements. That informal review identified numerous potential discrepancies between filed statements and public records. The department stated that the review is preliminary and is not a determination that any specific candidate violated AS 39.50.

On the basis of that additional information, the Lieutenant Governor will certify the two candidates.

“The Department of Law’s informal review has raised questions about the recommendations made on August 31,” said Lt. Gov. Nancy Dahlstrom. “I will not withhold certification from two candidates on recommendations that, in light of this additional information, I cannot apply with confidence across the field of candidates. Certification decisions have to rest on a process that can be defended as to every candidate.”

The department provided an initial working draft of the same information to the Commission on Thursday evening. The Commission has not acted to reconsider its recommendations despite the need to finalize the ballots. The Division of Elections will now update the certified list of candidates, including the governor and lieutenant governor pairing under AS 15.25.100.

Important to point out Jodi Taylor’s financial disclosures have the exact same problem that got Treg DQ’d. No last names who’s renting at their 234-unit apartment building. Last year, they asked for special treatment, were denied and did it any way.

It’s official. The last-minute switcheroo was successful (barring litigation, ofc). Alaska’s governors race is: JKT/Johnson D/NP Wilson/Shower R/R Bronson/Church R/R English/Jodi Taylor R/R (replacing Treg Taylor/English after Treg was DQ’d) #akelect

The question, it seems, is whether they've filed their financial disclosures on time—and properly. Looks like Jodi Taylor picked up and entered much of Treg's financial disclosures, which got him rejected in the first place. Though, under recent precedent, they get an extra month to fix it.

Right, I should have phrased that better. We haven't seen the official paperwork yet. But what the plan was is Candice English as the governor candidate, stepping in for Taylor, and Jodi Taylor as the lieutenant, stepping in for English.

Here's his relatively detail-free release. What I had heard going into the weekend was that he was already winding down his campaign (I kinda think they gassed out early). Also, AFL-CIO endorsing JKT last week signaled that there might not be the same union support if he did run.

Also, looks like Bill Hill will still have a crowded race against US Rep. Nick Begich. Ahead of the deadline, Democrat John B Williams has dropped out. That leaves Democrat and currently imprisoned felon Eric Hafner in the race, elevating Democrat Yaquelin Reynoso to the general. #akelect

I've heard just about every combo of potential outcomes in what the race for governor will actually look like, and that was all before it turned out Taylor may be an illegal (candidate). Frankly, it all feels a little like 5D chess with a non-zero chance that we somehow end up with Palin as gov.

Matt Acuña Buxton @matt.akmemo.com · 28/08/2026
So, as Alaska's governor's race stands: - JKT and Begich may/will consolidate - Wilson: Staying in - Bronson: Staying in - Taylor WOULD move up if the Dems consolidate, but isn't actually a legitimate candidate - Bishop WOULD move up if Dems consolidate, Taylor legally blocked - Crum: Hanging out

#akleg Another day, another Dunleavy AG fallen on hard times.
On August 26, 2026, the Alaska Public Offices Commission considered the matter
of Mr. Taylor’s public official financial disclosure statement. The Commission finds that
Mr. Taylor’s 2026 financial disclosure statement did not substantially comply with AS
39.50 “within 30 days after the due date.”1 As a result, the Commission recommends that
the lieutenant governor not certify Mr. Taylor’s nomination for the office of governor.2 A
full written order explaining the Commission’s reasoning will be issued by August 31,
