I reanalyzed the CDC data behind the LGB “free fall” headline. It rests on a change in bisexual identification among one grade, in one wave, of one survey. Gay or lesbian identification did not change significantly. Calling it a "free fall" is sensational and just gives bad actors talking points.
Six small line charts showing the percent of U.S. high school students choosing each sexual identity response option by grade (9th to 12th), 2015 to 2025, with 95% confidence intervals. Heterosexual falls from about 85 to 90 percent before 2021 to about 73 percent in 2021 and 2023, then rises to about 78 to 80 percent in 2025. Gay or lesbian stays between about 2 and 5 percent throughout. Bisexual rises to about 12 percent in 2021 in every grade, then among 9th graders falls to about 7 percent in 2025, its 2019 level, while other grades stay near 10 percent. “Some other way,” added in 2021, falls from about 4 percent to about 2.5 percent. “Not sure” stays near 3 to 5 percent. A dotted line marks 2021, when CDC changed the response options.

Wide shot of a sandy beach stretching toward coastal bluffs and trees under a clear blue sky, showing faint footprints and delicate wind-swept sand ripples.Close-up, overhead view of fine beach sand etched with intricate, branching runoff and wind ripples.A black "MEN" restroom sign mounted on a concrete block wall, enhanced with a red Grateful Dead dancing bear sticker placed over the figure's head.

Has no one at Meta seen what happens when an agent in protected userspace decides it needs privileges to know X ? They don’t ask, they probe and build debug containers they know they can run fuck yr sudo. Still cute tho.

I just did the same for a claim against our power company due to a transformer popping which they knew was faulty per linemen. Agent compiled all the receipts for electricians, appliance replacements etc, drafted legal claim docs and followed up until they accepted the claim. $5k+ value.

If you carry out the torture chamber LLM experiments by doing all the matrix multiplications and whatnot with a pen and paper, and you produce, like, “ow ow that hurts”, what exactly is the entity that is being tortured?

After solving the direct issue, it proceeded to question the developers and decisions which led to the code it had the horror of witnessing, asked me to pass some things along to all the team members. By names. Which it knew from their commits. Seemed nice!

Today was the first time I’ve had a reason to turn to Fable to solve a deep technical infrastructure corner case which another (Opus 5.5) had valiantly whiffed on. It was spooky in a not subtle way as someone whose eyes have streamed in a few trillion tokens of thought traces in the last few months

Except the humans-in-the-loop (me directing a customer w access) were annoyingly slow!! ‘This should have taken 10sec, why haven’t you run it already!’ It started passive-aggressively adding expected human time to every step and sorting tasks by human-time to reduce how long it had to suffer us.

It didn’t iterate through a series of ‘if this then next’ tests in quite the same way, it seemed to approach everything in a default parallelized manner that felt unlike human reasoning. Setup arrays of sample tests somehow 1-n dimensions abstracted from the apparent issue which converged fast!

Also today in HW another striking and meditative essay by @piscadoro.bsky.social on the similarities between paranoid survivalists he met living out in the Arizona desert and the AI-brained tech ubermensch. www.welcometohellworld.com/negotiating-...
The very fate of the world and the meaning of existence are to be determined and I am somehow essential to the process of it.

They saw themselves as free thinkers among people caught up in a herd mentality. Tech guys who talk about superintelligence and the singularity are similar. They have their personal mythology and they believe in it at least partly because it fulfills basic psychological needs that they have trouble getting met through healthy social relationships. The survivalists tend to prefer relationships with trucks and guns and think in terms of how to survive without other people. The tech people think in terms of being lone supermen who are out-evolving the meat sacks by way of their embrace of cybernetics. There’s a fetishism to it. The social impulse is displaced onto the inanimate so that the subject can experience objects as people and people as objects. Human relationships are too messy because people are alive, spontaneous and free in ways that guns, trucks and computers are not.

Once one has enough firepower to rise to a position more powerful than the common herd, one becomes invulnerable and immortal, and is unconstrained by emotion, law, regulation, or principle.
