Question for the #rstats and @posit.co community: What is the best workflow for using Claude Code inside Positron? I love Positron for R package dev, Shiny dashboards, and everyday data analysis. I tried Positron Assistant with the Claude API — great but too expensive for daily use. 🧵👇

I'm not gonna touch most of this but two things: 1. The apprenticeship model of science was never supposed to be about the PI's workflow. The point isn't to have research assistants to help to publish stuff faster. Training the next generation researcher *is* the point. Because we care. Allegedly.

An anecdote about why LLMs matter for open source software developers: I maintain the tigris R package, which makes it easy to get geographic datasets from the US Census Bureau. In April, an issue on the Census website started blocking download requests via tigris.

Today I finished teaching my ML for Psych in #rstats. The lesson was taught on zoom from my parents' attic, since our apartment was destroyed by an Iranian missile last week. Class was interrupted by sirens, but resumed as if nothing happened after exiting bomb shelters - only in Israel!. 🇮🇱

As someone trained as a trade economist, it is my duty to share the 1929-1933 Kindleberger Spiral, showing the month-month decline in global trade due to the combined factors of the (global) Great Depression and retaliatory tariffs. Smooth Hawley is implemented mid-June 1930.

I've been writing #rstats packages and coding web maps for a decade now. Despite this, while I've always wanted a story map feature in R, I never really knew how. With Claude Sonnet and Cursor, I got a working prototype in a morning, and now it's on CRAN for you to use.
